This patient started treatment at 14 years old and completed it after 19 months in braces.

At the beginning, you can notice spacing between the upper front teeth and an increased overjet - when the upper teeth sit too far forward compared to the lower teeth.

This can affect both appearance and function, and may also make the front teeth more vulnerable to chipping or injury.

With braces, we focused on:
• Closing spaces
• Aligning both arches
• Reducing the overjet and improving the bite

Now, the teeth fit together properly, the smile looks more balanced, and the result is designed for long-term stability.

If you’re not sure what type of bite your child has, we’re here to help. Book your complimentary consultation with our team.

We have patients from 7.5 to 75 years old. And we always say that orthodontics is for every age.

But timing still plays a big role in how simple or complex the journey will be.

In growing patients, we can guide jaw development, create space, and correct bite issues while everything is still forming. In many cases, this can significantly reduce the need for extractions or jaw surgery later on.

In adults, we can still achieve beautiful, healthy results. But over time, untreated bite issues may lead to:

• More tooth wear
• Gum and bone changes
• Increased crowding or shifting
• Greater strain on the jaw joints

So it’s not about “too early” or “too late.” It’s about not waiting until a small issue becomes a bigger one.

Coming in earlier often means more options, less complexity, and a smoother treatment overall.

Our patient started treatment at 12 years old and completed it in 24 months using braces, a Forsus appliance, and tongue tamers.

At the start, you can see an open bite – when upper and lower teeth don’t touch when the jaws are closed, leaving a gap. Many open bites develop due to early habits like prolonged thumb sucking or tongue thrusting.

🟢 Tongue tamers (small fixed attachments behind the teeth) helped retrain tongue position. They acted as a reminder, reducing tongue thrusting and supporting stable, long-term results.

🟢 The Forsus appliance (a fixed device attached to braces) gently guided the lower jaw forward. It works continuously, helping correct bite imbalance without relying on patient compliance.

Early evaluation can help guide jaw development, address issues like open bite before they become more complex, and in some cases reduce the need for tooth extractions or jaw surgery later on.

Those concerns are real. Adults often delay orthodontic treatment because of visibility, time, and daily routine.

That’s why options like Invisalign exist.

In cases where it’s appropriate, it allows us to move teeth using clear, removable aligners that fit more easily into a busy lifestyle. You wear them about 20-22 hours a day, take them out only when you eat or brush your teeth, and change them every 10-14 days to gradually move your teeth.

But it’s not something you choose on your own. Not every case can be treated this way, which is why a proper evaluation matters.

Once you understand what’s happening with your bite and alignment, the decision becomes much more straightforward.

Your bite is how your upper and lower teeth come together when you close your mouth.

A proper bite means your teeth align evenly, your jaws fit comfortably, and there’s no extra stress on your muscles, joints, or teeth.

When the bite is off, your smile may show subtle signs like:
• Jaw tension or clicking
• Tooth wear
• Difficulty chewing
• Gaps, crowding, or shifting teeth
• Headaches or facial muscle strain

These issues don’t always resolve on their own, but they can be treated.

Braces or Invisalign can help guide your teeth and bite into a correct, stable position.

Step 7️⃣: the orthodontic appointments are every 8-10 weeks.

At that appointments we:
✅Check tooth movement against the treatment plan
✅Ensure aligners are fitting properly
Provide the next sets of trays
✅Replace or adjust attachments
✅Monitor oral hygiene and gum health
✅Make bite adjustments if needed
✅Address discomfort, hygiene or tracking issues

Depending on the case, appointments may also involve:
▪️Interproximal reduction (IPR): gentle reshaping or polishing between teeth to create small amounts of space
▪️Replace elastics
▪️Monitoring impacted or erupting teeth
Bite equilibration

Step 8️⃣: Once treatment is complete, it’s time to enjoy your healthy teeth and beautiful smile!

Your final aligners will serve as your retainers. They must be worn as prescribed by your orthodontist to maintain your results. Regular check-up appointments are important to help preserve your smile long-term.

A child’s teeth, jaws, breathing patterns, and posture all develop together as one system. When one part is off, the body often adapts in ways that aren’t obvious at first.

For example, when a child consistently breathes through their mouth, the head may shift forward to open the airway. Over time, this can affect neck position, shoulder posture, how the jaws develop, and even how the face looks.

That’s why timing matters. The first orthodontic evaluation is recommended around age 7. The earlier we look, the more we can guide development rather than correct it later.

Visit us for a complimentary consultation and let’s evaluate how everything is coming together.

Here’s a few other common causes an improper bite can develop:

3️⃣ Genetics and jaw growth patterns. A narrow upper jaw, a protruding lower jaw, or limited space for teeth is often inherited. If parents had bite issues, the risk is higher

4️⃣ Early or late loss of baby teeth. If baby teeth are lost too early, nearby teeth can shift into that space, and permanent teeth may come in out of position.

5️⃣ Injuries or dental work (fillings, crowns, or prosthetics) that change how teeth fit together can gradually affect the bite.

6️⃣ Teeth grinding and chewing on one side. Repeated pressure on the same areas can lead to asymmetry and jaw shifts over time.

This is why early orthodontic checkups matter, ideally around age 7. But even if you’re older, it’s not something to ignore. Bite issues can worsen over time, leading to uneven wear, shifting teeth, and more complex problems later.

Our patient started Invisalign treatment at 18 years old and completed it in 19 months (when he just turned 20), correcting both alignment and bite for a result that looks great and functions the way it should.

Invisalign is often a very comfortable option for teens and adults who want flexibility in their daily routine. Being able to remove the aligners makes it easier to eat, brush, and keep everything clean throughout treatment.

At the same time, every case is different - the way your teeth come together, how they move, and what needs to be corrected all play a role in choosing the right approach.

If you’ve been thinking about improving your smile, come in for a complimentary consultation. We’ll take a close look and guide you toward the option that fits your case best.

If you’ve ever thought about improving your smile, it always starts with understanding what your teeth actually need.
