Rebuilding lost bone 🦷✨

After the compromised upper right teeth were removed, significant bone loss remained in the area.

Through vertical bone augmentation, we were able to rebuild the missing ridge height and create a much better foundation for future dental implants.

Bone regeneration takes time and patience — but the result is very rewarding. 😊

Inspiring three days Harvard Dental School/Tissue X soft tissue course in Chicago! 🦷✨

Grateful to learn from the world famous periodontists Dr. Shayan Barootchi and Dr. Lorenzo Tavelli at the TissueX Soft Tissue Grafting course, together with 30+ wonderful colleagues.

Over the years, I’ve taken many courses on soft tissue grafting around dental implants, but I’ve had fewer opportunities to systematically study mucogingival surgery around natural teeth. I’ve been participating in the TissueX LAST Annual Virtual Course throughout this year, learning the latest concepts and techniques in soft tissue and implant therapy.

This three-day Modern Soft Tissue Grafting in Natural Dentition hands-on course in Chicago was a wonderful opportunity to reinforce, review, and put into practice many of the concepts I’ve been learning online. From FGG and CTG to CAF, tunnel techniques, and TCAF, these three intensive days helped connect many of the concepts together and gave me a deeper appreciation of flap design, tissue handling, case selection, and the details behind each technique.

The more I learn, the more I realize that surgical technique is only part of the education. Understanding the biology, indications, and clinical decision-making behind each procedure is just as important—if not more important—for achieving predictable outcomes.

A big thank you to Dr. Shayan Barootchi and Dr. Lorenzo Tavelli for generously sharing their knowledge and expertise, and to the 30+ colleagues who made these three days such a great learning experience.

So much learned, and still so much more to learn. Keep learning, keep refining, and bring it all back to better patient care. 🌷🦷

Immediate Denture - another happy smile

Immediate dentures may be an old-school concept, but for the right patient, they can be incredibly meaningful.

In just two hours — from failing, mobile teeth and an unstable old denture to a clean, stable new smile immediately after extractions. 😄
No need to go home without teeth. No awkward waiting period. Just a same-day transition to a smile patient feels comfortable with.

Seeing his smile afterwords made my day too. ❤️

A simple, minimally invasive solution can make a big difference. ✨

Freehand composite bonding was used to close the lower anterior diastemas in a single visit—preserving natural tooth structure while improving esthetics.

America 250 - An unforgettable summer night in Boston. 🇺🇸✨

Celebrating America 250 along the Charles River with family and friends.

The drone show beautifully told the story of Boston—from the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere to the birth of a nation—followed by an incredible fireworks display over the skyline.

The fireworks were delayed until 10 PM because of the weather, and we didn’t get home until after midnight. But we have chance to enjoy this special Boston summer night more!

Happy Belated Independence Day! ❤️🤍💙

Everyone wants a beautiful smile. 🌷

Many patients come in saying:

“I don’t like how my teeth look.”

What they often notice are:

❌ Dark crown margins
❌ Black triangles
❌ Unnatural color
❌ Old crowns that no longer look esthetic

What they may not realize is that there can also be:

❌ Midline discrepancies
❌ Uneven tooth proportions
❌ Irregular gum contours

And once old crowns are removed, we sometimes discover:

⚠ Recurrent decay
⚠ Marginal leakage
⚠ Incomplete root canal treatment
⚠ Compromised post-and-core restorations

Many patients prefer to avoid surgery whenever possible.

In these cases, we improved the smile by:

✨ Minimally invasive gingival recontouring
✨ New esthetic zirconia crowns
✨ Refining tooth shape and proportions
✨ Enhancing overall smile harmony

Esthetic dentistry isn’t always about creating a perfect Hollywood smile.

Often, it’s about helping patients achieve a smile that looks:

🌷 Natural
🌷 Harmonious
🌷 Comfortable
🌷 Confident

Because sometimes the best dentistry is the dentistry that nobody notices—only that your smile looks better. ✨

No Bone- No implants?

Many patients are told they don’t have enough bone for implants.
In reality, modern bone grafting techniques allow us to rebuild support and place implants safely in most situations.

This case demonstrates simultaneous implant placement with autogenous bone grafting for GBR guided bone regeneration

A Snowy Night - Another night of leaning ❄️ .
On March 3rd, Boston was hit by another heavy snow. Icy roads and slow traffic didn’t stop many of us Boston dentists from heading out for Dr. Fouad Khoury’s bone augmentation workshop in Cambridge MA.

The course focused on Dr. Khoury’s Carotta GBR concept, a technique developed more than 20 years ago by this German master. We learned his concept and practiced placing micro-screws fixation of bone cores on 3D-printed models. The key philosophy emphasized in the Khoury system is: “Bone augmentation should be biologically driven.”
Autogenous bone grafts contain living bone cells and typically result in minimal postoperative reaction and faster healing. In many cases, healing occurs in about 3–4 months, and implants can often be placed simultaneously.

The longer I practice implant dentistry, the more I realize that stability and predictability are what matter most.

A memorable snowy night in Boston filled with learning and inspiration. ❄️
