📚🦷 Lifelong learning is one of the many ways we strive to provide the best care for our patients.

Last month Dr. Erin, along with hygienists Tara, Emily, and Jena, attended the South Dakota Dental Association’s 2026 Annual Session in Sioux Falls. Throughout the conference, they had the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in dentistry, connect with colleagues, and bring new knowledge back to our office.

When most people think about cavities, they think of juice boxes, soda, and fruit snacks. 🍭🧃

But one of the biggest cavity culprits we see every day is actually something many parents consider a “”safe”” snack: Goldfish crackers and cheese crackers. 🐠🧀

Here’s why: these crunchy snacks are packed with refined starches that quickly break down into sugars. Even worse, they tend to stick in the tiny grooves and crevices of teeth, where cavity-causing bacteria love to feed.

The real issue isn’t necessarily the snack itself—it’s the frequency. Grazing on crackers throughout the day keeps your mouth in a constant cycle of acid attacks.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to ban Goldfish forever! 💙 Simply encourage water after snacking, maintain good brushing habits, and keep up with regular dental visits.

Sometimes the foods we think are harmless are the ones that surprise us the most. 🦷✨

🎓🦷 May marked a special milestone for Dr. Anne and Dr. Erin — 20 years since graduating from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry!

It’s hard to believe two decades have passed since they began their journeys in dentistry. Over the last 20 years, they have cared for countless patients, built lasting relationships, continued to grow in their profession, and helped make Brookings Dental Clinic what it is today.
