This week we want to dive into impacted wisdom teeth.
Pictured below is a close up of a panoramic x-ray of one of our patients whose wisdom tooth in the upper left jaw was pressing smack dab into the neighboring molar. Ouch! Except... actually, it only just started bothering this patient. However, the damage has been occurring for years. Unfortunately, by the time it was addressed the damage to the bone on the neighboring tooth was catastrophic and the tooth just could not be saved. 49% of the time, an impacted wisdom tooth will
resorb the 12 year molars, and, in some cases, result in the loss of the otherwise perfectly healthy tooth.
Wisdom teeth can be very sneaky. Just because there is no pain, does not necessarily mean the tooth does not need to be removed. Aside from damage to the neighboring teeth, they are also linked to heart attacks, strokes, and, in women, low birth weight pregnancies. If the tooth is popping through the gum tissue, 33% of those teeth are silently infected.

Happy Friday Friends!
We have had some close up visitors at the office this week! A peacock was caught enjoying the spring flowers and ambiance out on our patient patio. A little squirrel was caught observing and intently listening to a consultation. In our pond, some sweet baby ducklings were swimming over by the sunbathing turtles hanging out on the log. We are lucky to be so immersed in nature. Who says health care can't be enjoyable?

Happy Friday Friends!
Freddy would like to introduce to you our newest employee, Aiden!
Aiden will be with us through the summer before heading back to school in the fall. While he is here with us, he is involved in many areas of the office. You can find him in the lab working to sanitize and prepare surgical trays or he may be in a surgical room assisting with our patients' care. He also can be spotted helping our front office ladies file and organize charts. He is an excellent addition to our team!
Outside of work, Aiden enjoys playing his guitar, playing pickleball and going golfing.
His favorite thing about working here at Dr. Bonine's office is, " working among so many kind people who are eager to help."
One thing Aiden wishes everyone knew about Oral Surgery is, "oral surgery isn't scary and it is essential to your health."

Happy Mother's Day Friends!
We want to spotlight our amazing team of mothers here at Dr. Bonine's. These women give their very best every day and always treat all of our patients like family. I am grateful for each and every one of them!
We also want to spotlight our beautiful woodland mothers that have been spotted around our office! We have new little baby ducklings waddling around and a mama sandhill crane and her baby has been spotted as well.
We are truly blessed and grateful! Wishing a Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers and wishing a happy weekend to all of our friends!

HE'S BACK!!!!!
Dr. Bonine is back teaching at the University of Michigan! Having previously been adored in the clinic and even having externships at our office all the way up until covid, Dr. Bonine is back at it!
He got inspired to jump back into teaching after hearing about a neurologist who is still teaching at the age of 102 at Case Western.
Meaning, Dr. Bonine still has many decades of teaching ahead of him! Which is great because he genuinely enjoys to teach. After all "Doctor" in both latin and greek means Teacher.
