WE OFTEN WARN of gum disease and the detrimental effects it has on the mouth and body, but there are a lot of myths out there, so we’re here to set the record straight! We believe the more educated our patients are about dental health issues, the better they’ll be able to prevent them! 👍

Myth #1: Bleeding Gums Are Normal

The truth is that bleeding gums are the first sign of gum disease. 😬 Gums swell, bleed, and become tender when plaque accumulates around the gumline. Keep your gums healthy by removing plaque and food debris with daily brushing and flossing.

Myth #2: Poor Oral Hygiene Is the Only Cause

Insufficient brushing and flossing do contribute to the development of gum disease, but so do other things. To***co use, stress, a bad diet, genetics, illnesses such as diabetes, and even pregnancy can all increase the risk of developing gum disease. 😮

Myth #3: Gum Disease Is Irreversible

Gum disease is absolutely reversible in its earliest stage: gingivitis. The earlier it’s caught, the better. In most cases, good oral hygiene habits can rid you of gingivitis and stop gum disease in its tracks.

ANYONE ABOUT TO HAVE root canal therapy for the first time is bound to have questions. We want to give our patients all the tools they need to have a good, stress-free experience, which is why we want to talk about what you can do before your appointment to help everything run smoothly.

1. Bring your insurance information with you, as well as any x-rays you’ve received from your general dentist. 📋

2. Get plenty of rest. Getting a good night’s sleep before your procedure is a great way to combat anxiety. 😴

3. If you aren’t going to be under I.V. sedation, we encourage you to eat your regular meals. 🍲

4. Relax! Whatever you might’ve heard about root canals, this procedure relieves pain, it doesn’t cause it. Keep that in mind and imagine how great you’ll feel when your tooth pain is gone! 😄

If you still have questions about what to do before your procedure or about the procedure itself, just give us a call or leave a comment. You probably aren’t the only one with questions, and we’re happy to answer!
