Do wisdom teeth always need to be removed? Not always—but in many cases, removal is recommended to prevent problems before they start. Wisdom teeth are the most commonly impacted teeth in the mouth, and even when they aren't causing pain, they can contribute to infections, cysts, gum disease, damage to neighboring teeth, and difficult-to-clean areas that lead to decay.

One of the challenges with wisdom teeth is that these issues often develop silently, long before any symptoms appear. By the time discomfort occurs, damage may have already been done. That's why early evaluation is so important. Monitoring may be appropriate for some patients, but for many, proactive removal offers the best opportunity to avoid future complications and make treatment easier and recovery smoother.
