We are very intentional in our office about not just providing high-quality dentistry, but also providing a high-quality patient experience as well as being very gentle, honest and making people feel at home. We’ve been doing this for 20 years, but it requires a lot of work and a lot of training.

Friday we had our offsite annual training day and I thought it would be interesting to share with everyone the serious and intense training that our team received. This is a rare insight into our behind the scenes operations.

Everyone old enough can remember where they were on 9-11.

Melanie and I were on vacation in Key West, a couple of years before we moved from Kentucky to Florida. I came out of the shower, and Melanie was sitting on the edge of the bed watching The Today Show and told me a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. I assumed it was a small prop plane, but I sat down next to her and watched as the second plane hit the South Tower. We never left the room, not even for coffee, until the afternoon.

There are many stories of heroes that day. The NYFD and NYPD became legends for their bravery and losses as they worked to save people.

Our country united after that day. I wish it still were.

For Melanie and me, we will always pause on this day and remember the event, the lives lost and the heroes who acted at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and on United flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania. And our hope is that today, if just for one day, we can all be united again.
