PSA: get your wisdom teeth out! Impacted wisdom teeth can be asymptomatic but still problematic.

This 70 year old patient’s wisdom teeth had not been a problem until recently; imaging at her dentist’s office showed a radiolucent lesion with tooth #17 displaced inferiorly, beyond the border of the mandible. Dr. O’Brien used a cervical approach to remove the tooth and enucleate the lesion. The facial vein was identified and the Hayes-Martin maneuver used to preserve the marginal mandibular nerve.

The lesion’s diagnosis was dentigerous cyst; the patient is doing well with full function of her facial nerve. Not often a tooth is extracted through the neck!

After 35 years of treating patients, Dr. Comstock finished his last case, an orthognathic surgery on a family friend. A fitting way to end for a surgeon who always treated patients as if they were family members. Dr. C did it the right way and set the bar high; we’ll miss having the GOAT at the office. Enjoy your retirement Dr. Comstock, you’ve earned it!

Same day extraction, implant, and temporary crown. Our patient’s natural tooth failed and we did our best to create a similar temporary crown on the immediately placed implant so she could leave her extraction appointment similar to how she came in 👍

Recent patient seen while on trauma call that sustained a mandible fracture from a car accident. Fracture was reduced and fixed with titanium plates; patient was doing great at her 2 week post op check!

Patient was referred for extraction of tooth #5 and future implant. We were able to place the implant the same day as the extraction, cutting down months of treatment time and getting him his smile back sooner. Immediate implants are a great option in the right situation!

40 year old patient was referred to our office to evaluate a cystic lesion found during routine dental X-rays. The lesion was biopsied and the impacted tooth 17 was extracted; final diagnosis was dentigerous cyst. The cyst was decompressed and once smaller, it was removed (along with tooth 18) and bone grafted. It’s healing well and should be ready for implant placement in the near future.

PSA: Don’t put off routine dental hygiene/exam appointments! If the dentist hadn’t caught the lesion, it would have become even larger and likely lead to a pathologic fracture.

Recent jaw surgery case: 34 year old patient finished orthodontics and needed to correct a retrusive chin; a sliding genioplasty was performed with a 6mm advancement plate. Patient looks great and is happy with a stronger chin!
