COVID-19 Update:

Beginning May 11, 2020, the Illinois Department of Public Health is recommending “that oral health providers resume provision of routine oral and dental care consistent with guidance for minimizing risk of transmission of COVID-19 in an oral healthcare setting.” While this is good news there are significant measures that need to be in place to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19 before re-opening.
The staff and doctors at Prairie Dental Associates have been working very hard over the past 2 months to acquire the necessary training, equipment, and PPE required to protect ourselves and our patients. The limited availability of certain items means that we are not prepared to safely resume routine dental care at this time, however, we are hopeful that we can return to work as early as next week.
You may hear that some offices in town will be open to routine and elective care this week. We cannot speak to the measures they are taking to protect their staff and patients, but rest assured we will be following all the updated guidelines for preventing transmission of COVID-19 and implementing extra safeguards whenever possible.
When we do re-open, your visits to our office this year will undoubtedly look different than they did before the pandemic. We ask for your patience as we navigate this new way of providing oral health care. We will do our best to address your dental needs in a timely fashion while doing everything we can to protect our staff and patients from all infectious diseases.
In the meantime patients can still call (309)662-7722 if they have a dental emergency. We will provide a more detailed notice of our new safety measures, procedures, and protocol as we get closer to re-opening.

UPDATE:

The updated recommendation from the Illinois State Dental Society is for dental offices to remain closed (with the exception of emergency treatment) until further notice. We are working on clearing existing patient appointments from our schedule about 1 week in advance so as not to cancel any further into the future than necessary. This means that many of you have still received reminder emails, texts, or phone calls about your upcoming appointments. The reminders can be ignored for the time being. We are working on temporarily turning off these reminders.

We are keeping a list of people who are not able to be seen for their scheduled appointments and will do our best to get those patients back on the schedule as soon as possible. This means we will likely have extended hours when we are first able to open back up.

Keep in mind we are still able to see patients for dental emergencies. Emergencies included severe toothache, dental trauma resulting in a broken tooth or teeth, or a tooth-related infection or swelling. At this point we are doing everything we can to avoid performing any procedures that would create an aerosolization of saliva, but we will do what we can to get patients out of pain and prevent further damage to teeth or oral tissues.

If you have a dental emergency or have an urgent dental question, please leave a voice message on our answering machine (309.662.7722). These messages are forwarded to us via email, and we are checking these messages several times per day.

We truly can't wait until we can safely see our patients again. Please bear with us over the next couple months as we transition back into doing dentistry under evolving guidelines.

Based on the recommendations set forth by the Illinois State Dental Society, our office will be following new guidelines from March 17th through March 31st. These measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of our patients, our community, and our dental team members. The guidelines are as follows:
- We will only be seeing patients for urgent or emergency dental care.
o We have cancelled all dental cleaning appointments for the rest of this week. If things have not changed, we will be contacting next week’s patients at the end of this week to cancel those appointments as well.
- In the event of a dental emergency, please call (309)662-7722.
o If emergency treatment is needed, all patients will rinse with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash prior to any procedures. Hydrogen peroxide has been shown to be effective against the coranavirus.
The situation with the coronavirus is changing every day. We are doing our best to stay up to date with the latest recommendations for keeping our community safe. When we are cleared to continue practicing elective dental procedures, we will be opening up additional appointments slots to accommodate the cancellations from these next 2 weeks. Please remain patient as we attempt to navigate this unusual situation.
