Black spots on teeth can be scary, but they do not always mean cavities.
Sometimes they are caused by bacterial staining that sticks to the surface of the teeth. Brushing alone may not remove it, even if you have good oral hygiene.
The only way to know what is really happening is to have it checked by a dentist.
At Oxboro Family Dental, we can evaluate the spots, check for cavities, and recommend the right next step. Sometimes it may be as simple as a professional cleaning or polishing.
If you notice dark spots on your teeth or your child’s teeth, don’t wait and guess.

A little blood when brushing does not always mean you “brushed too hard.”
Sometimes, it is the first sign that your gums are irritated or that inflammation may be starting.
That is why regular cleanings and gum checks matter.
Many gum issues develop slowly. Without major pain. Without an obvious warning sign. It may start with a little bleeding, tenderness, bad breath, or a quiet feeling that something is just not right.
At Oxboro Family Dental, we look at the full picture. Not just whether your teeth are clean, but whether your gums are healthy, stable, and properly supporting your teeth.
If you notice bleeding, sensitivity, or bad breath that keeps coming back, you do not need to panic. But it is worth checking.
Schedule a visit and let’s take care of it before a small issue becomes a bigger one.

Vacation should be about relaxing, eating your favorite foods, and making memories @ not worrying about a tooth that feels weak, sensitive, or painful when you chew.
If you have a cracked tooth, an old filling, a chipped tooth, or a tooth that doesn’t feel right, it may be worth checking before your trip.
A dental crown can help protect a damaged tooth, improve chewing comfort, and restore the natural look of your smile.
Before summer plans get busy, take care of the small dental concerns now.

Alzheimer’s disease and oral health may be more connected than many people realize.
Research suggests that chronic inflammation including inflammation caused by advanced gum disease may play a role in overall systemic health. Some studies have found associations between periodontal disease and cognitive decline.
This does not mean that gum disease causes Alzheimer’s.
But it does reinforce something important:
Your mouth is not separate from the rest of your body.
Healthy gums support more than just your smile - they reduce inflammation, support immune function, and contribute to overall well-being.
Simple steps make a difference:
✔️ consistent brushing and flossing
✔️ regular professional cleanings
✔️ early treatment of gum disease
At Oxboro Family Dental, we believe prevention isn’t just about teeth.
It’s about long-term health.
If it’s been a while since your last cleaning, this is your reminder.

Implant success is not only about surgical precision.
It also depends on your body’s condition during healing.
Bone needs to regenerate properly. Soft tissues must recover. The immune system plays a role. That’s why certain nutrients such as Vitamin D, iron, B12, K2, calcium, and magnesium are important in supporting osseointegration.
This does not mean every patient requires supplementation.
But overall health can influence healing and long-term implant stability.
If you’re considering a dental implant, we’ll discuss not only the procedure but also the factors that support proper recovery.

If your toothbrush looks like this after just one month…
the problem isn’t the toothbrush.

It’s usually pressure.
Many people believe brushing harder means cleaning better.
In reality, aggressive brushing can:
• wear down enamel
• irritate and recede gums
• increase tooth sensitivity
• cause bristles to fray quickly
And this applies to both manual and electric toothbrushes.
Brushing should never feel like scrubbing.

Instead of force, focus on technique:
✔ gentle pressure
✔ small, controlled motions
✔ holding the brush at a 45° angle toward the gumline
✔ spending about 3–5 seconds on each tooth surface
If the bristles are bending outward quickly, it’s a sign to adjust how you brush — not necessarily what you brush with.
Oral health isn’t about brushing harder.
It’s about brushing smarter.
If you’re unsure whether your technique is helping or harming your teeth, we’re happy to guide you at Oxboro Family Dental.
