What is Root Canal Therapy?

When a tooth has decay that has not been treated for an extended period of time, the decay eventually breaks through the enamel and the dentin layers of the teeth to the center that has the pulp or the nerve. When the nerve of the tooth gets infected by bacteria, then root canal therapy is what is needed to remove an infection.

What causes the nerve/pulp to get infected?

There are various reasons why a nerve or the pulp of the tooth to get infected. Some of the most common causes are:
1. Deep decay
2. A cracked or fractured tooth
3. Trauma

Why Use Mouthwash?
Just like dental floss, interdental brushes, and water flossers, mouthwash can get in between teeth. Reaching areas that your toothbrush can’t get to help to reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease. Mouthwash can help:
-Prevent or control tooth decay
-Reduce plaque (a thin film of bacteria that forms on teeth)
-Prevent or reduce gingivitis (an early stage of gum disease)
-Reduce the speed that tartar (hardened plaque) forms on the teeth or to produce a combination of these effects

Do electric toothbrushes clean better?
Tests have shown that power toothbrushes are more effective at removing plaque. Those with heads that rotate in both directions ('oscillating' heads) are the most effective. Everyone can use a power brush. They are particularly useful for people with limited movement of the arm or hand, such as disabled or elderly people, who often find that using a normal toothbrush does not allow them to clean thoroughly.
