Here are 3 evidence-based tips for lowering cholesterol, based on guidance from the CDC and American Heart Association:

🥗Choose heart-healthy foods.
Limit foods high in saturated and trans fats, such as fatty meats, butter, and full-fat dairy. Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, and foods with unsaturated fats, such as olive oil and avocado. Fiber-rich foods can also help lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.

🏃🏻‍♂️Get regular physical activity.
Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity each week, such as brisk walking or bicycling. Regular physical activity can help lower cholesterol and support a healthy weight.

💪Maintain a healthy weight and avoid to***co.
If you are overweight, losing weight can help improve cholesterol levels. Smoking also damages blood vessels and can lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol, so quitting can reduce cardiovascular risk.

Last week, Marion Brewer, APRN, joined the Knights of Peter Claver Women’s Conference in Bay St. Louis to share an important message about prioritizing your health.

Annual wellness visits and recommended screenings such as mammograms, bone density tests and lab work can help detect health concerns early.

Our team was also on hand to provide blood pressure checks, share information about our services and hand out some Coastal Family Health swag!

A big investment in healthier smiles! 🦷💙
Coastal Family Health Center has received $40,000 from the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation to expand access to oral health services and preventive screenings across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

This funding will help us invest in new equipment, bring oral health screenings to our school-based health clinics, expand oral cancer screenings through our medical mobile unit, and strengthen preventive dental care for children and adults.

We’re grateful for partners who believe in bringing quality care directly to our communities! Read the full press release here https://coastalfamilyhealth.org/coastal-family-health-center-receives-grant-to-expand-access-to-oral-health-care/
