🍂🦷❤️ Did you know your mouth and your heart may be more connected than you think?
During National Dental Hygiene Month, we’re highlighting an important reminder: taking care of your oral health is part of taking care of your overall health!
Research has found an association between gum disease and cardiovascular conditions, including heart disease, stroke, and atrial fibrillation. Inflammation and bacteria associated with gum disease may play a role in this connection.
And there’s some interesting research on flossing, too! A 2025 American Heart Association study found that people who reported flossing at least once a week had a lower risk of certain types of stroke and atrial fibrillation. However, the researchers emphasized that these findings are preliminary, but there's really no downside to flossing regularly.
So, what can you do? ❤️
🪥 Brush at least twice a day
🧵 Floss regularly
🦷 Keep up with your dental cleanings and checkups
🥦 Make healthy choices for your whole body
❤️ Talk with your dental and medical providers about your overall health
A healthy mouth is an important part of a healthy you! 🍁
