Happy 4th of July to all of you from Turkey 🇹🇷
As you know, I mostly post about personal interests like Einstein and different life experiences, but on this independence day, I feel intrigued to
write a few words about my "new" home , the United States of America.
I am a first-generation American, having immigrated in 1999, with dreams of becoming a great dentist in a greater city, Los Angeles
Despite many doubts from friends, teachers and professors alike, I left Germany with an only 6 months notice, left everything behind, it was so quick, but it was the best thing ever happening to me.
I started my American journey with many doubts and worries but also determination and conviction.
I had been a practicing dentist in Germany for a few years, only to come to America and to be a student again after six long years of dental school in Germany.
"It can't be done," "it's not worth it," and "why leave the no1 economy in all of Europe to an uncertain future" were all to common opinions.
My father also always wanted to immigrate to the United States, but he didn't have the courage, and he was influenced by so many doubters. So I did it for him, and I brought my parents and sisters to America.
I have the deepest love and appreciation for what this country has given me. Not to show off, but patients flying in from other countries and continents to seek me in my dental office is a dream come true. Having been invited to work in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is a dream come true, only in America they say can you "just do it."
I am CERTAINLY aware that the United States is far from perfect (especially
right now) and that there are many challenges that we face, but I believe
America is still the land of opportunity, and
the place where anyone can live up to his or her god's given potential.
We are divided in this country like few other nations in the world, but we are also united in our common goal, to make America a great and safe home for all people who choose to live here.
I take a moment to appreciate our freedom and our right to speak freely.
Let's not take it for granted
