Ai is everywhere today. It reminds me of a time in my career back in the early 2000s, when CAD/CAM first arrived in dental labs. All my coworkers were so worried if they would still be needed and if this new machine would take their jobs. In 2008 when I purchased the lab, I made a big decision and invested in my first CAD/CAM system. I made sure my team was in the loop from the very beginning, so no one felt left behind. We learned it together, and that built trust.

That experience still guides how I work with doctors today. Technology will always change, but trust and communication don’t.

During a recent lab cleanup, I found this old articulated model from 2010. It's a 7-unit anterior PFM bridge I crafted entirely by hand. At the time, I had just recently taken over the lab and was still adjusting to life as both a technician and a business owner.

What made this case memorable, was that it was the first complex case I completed as the new owner, and it was full of learning moments.

This case tested my skills and reinforced the quiet confidence I still lean on today. Even in today’s digital world, those hands-on experiences continue to shape the way I approach every restoration.

Father’s Day Reflection

When I was a kid, I’d go with my parents to their grocery store, proudly wearing one of their aprons. I wanted to be just like them.

Now my own daughters have grown up seeing me push through early mornings and long days in the lab. I still remember them as little girls, laughing and making a mess with plaster, trying to copy what I do.

I’ve always believed that our habits are caught, not just taught.

My girls have been competitive dancers for years. It took early mornings, long nights, and all the effort in between. And now, with my oldest in college and my second just graduating high school, I find myself hoping more than ever that I’ve modeled the kind of example they can carry with them into adulthood.

Work hard. Be kind. Prioritize family.

Here’s to all the dads doing the same — Happy Father’s Day!
