Summer is officially here and if your house is anything like most, the routine is already starting to loosen a little. 🫨
Late nights, different mealtimes, more snacks, less structure. We get it, it's summer, but this is also the time of year we see the most backsliding on kids' dental habits... and it shows up at fall appointments.
A few simple things worth keeping up even when the schedule goes out the window:
🦷 Keep brushing at the same time of day even if bedtime shifts. Attaching it to something consistent (bath time, a show they always watch) helps it stick.
🦷 Watch the summer drink situation. Juice, sports drinks, lemonade; these are everywhere in summer and they're hard on teeth. Water between meals makes a real difference!
🦷 Snack timing matters more than snack type. Constant grazing keeps teeth in a constant acid environment. Defined snack times with water after are a simple fix.
🦷 If your child is in camp or away from home, PLEASE send the toothbrush!
None of this has to be perfect. It just has to mostly happen. You've got this, parents!
