🦷 A NEW CROWN. ONE VISIT. NO TEMPORARY.

Remember when getting a dental crown meant two appointments, messy impressions, a temporary crown, and waiting a couple of weeks for the permanent one?

Technology has changed that!

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, we use CEREC CAD/CAM technology to design and create beautiful ceramic crowns right here in our Bend office—often in a single visit.

Here’s how it works:

📸 Digital Scan — We capture a detailed 3D image of your prepared tooth without traditional impression material.

💻 Computer-Aided Design — I digitally design your crown to fit your tooth and bite.

⚙️ Precision Milling — Our in-office milling machine creates your restoration from a high-quality ceramic block.

✨ Final Placement — After checking the fit, bite, and appearance, we bond or cement your new crown in place.

And the best part?

✅ No temporary crown
✅ No waiting weeks for a dental lab
✅ No second appointment in many cases
✅ Beautiful, natural-looking ceramic restorations

Modern technology is wonderful. But what matters most is how it improves your experience as a patient.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, we believe dentistry should be precise, comfortable, and respectful of your time.

One visit. One beautiful new crown. One less thing on your calendar.

Does your mouth ever feel unusually dry? 💧

Dry mouth can seem like a minor annoyance, but saliva does a lot more than simply keep your mouth comfortable.

It helps wash food away, neutralize acids, protect your teeth from decay, and keep the tissues in your mouth healthy.

When saliva decreases, patients may notice:

💧 A dry or sticky feeling
🥤 Needing water frequently
👅 Burning or irritated tissues
😮 Difficulty speaking or swallowing
🦷 More cavities—sometimes developing surprisingly quickly

One of the most common causes I see is medication. Many medications used for blood pressure, allergies, depression, anxiety and other common conditions can reduce saliva.

Age itself isn’t necessarily the culprit—but as we get older, we’re more likely to take medications that can contribute to dry mouth.

The good news is that there are things we can do to help.

Sometimes it’s as simple as increasing hydration or using products designed for dry mouth. For patients at higher risk for decay, we may also recommend additional fluoride protection and more frequent monitoring.

If your mouth frequently feels dry, mention it at your next dental visit.

It’s not just about comfort.

Saliva is one of your mouth’s natural defenses—and when there’s less of it, your teeth may need a little more help.

“Nothing hurts. Why do I need X-rays?” 🦷

That’s a perfectly reasonable question—and one I hear from patients.

The answer is simple:

Some dental problems are much easier to treat before you can feel them.

When I examine your mouth, I can see a lot. But I can’t see everything happening between your teeth, underneath existing dental work, or inside the bone.

Dental X-rays can help us identify things such as:

🔎 Decay developing between teeth
🦷 Problems underneath existing fillings or crowns
🌱 Changes in the bone supporting your teeth
⚠️ Infections around the roots of teeth
📋 Changes we need to monitor over time

And taking an X-ray doesn’t mean we’re going to find something that needs treatment.

Sometimes the most useful thing an X-ray tells us is:

“Everything looks stable. Let’s keep watching it.”

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, diagnostic technology isn’t about finding more dentistry to do.

It’s about having the information we need to make better decisions—and helping you understand those decisions, too.

Why do teeth crack? 🦷

It’s easy to assume that if a tooth doesn’t have a cavity, there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it.

But teeth can crack for an entirely different reason:

Stress.

Your back teeth absorb tremendous forces every day. Add in an old large filling, years of chewing, grinding or clenching—or one unfortunate bite on something hard—and eventually a tooth can begin to fracture.

Sometimes the warning signs are obvious:

⚡ Sharp pain when you bite
🥶 Sensitivity to cold
😬 Pain when you release your bite

But here’s the tricky part:

Some cracked teeth have very few symptoms at all.

That’s why we look carefully for fracture lines during your examination and use photographs when possible so you can actually see what we see.

And finding a crack does not automatically mean the tooth needs a crown.

The location and depth of the crack, the size of any existing filling, your bite, and the overall condition of the tooth all matter.

Sometimes we simply watch it.

Sometimes protecting the tooth before it breaks can prevent a much bigger problem later.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, the goal isn’t to treat every imperfect tooth.

It’s to recognize when a tooth is becoming vulnerable—and protect it at the right time.

Why do teeth crack? 🦷

It’s easy to assume that if a tooth doesn’t have a cavity, there shouldn’t be anything wrong with it.

Unfortunately, teeth can crack for an entirely different reason:

Stress.

Every day, your back teeth absorb tremendous forces from chewing. Add in an old large filling, grinding or clenching, biting something unexpectedly hard—or simply years of use—and eventually a tooth can begin to fracture.

Sometimes the warning signs are obvious.

⚡ A sharp pain when you bite
🥶 Sensitivity to cold
😬 Discomfort when you release your bite

But here’s the frustrating part:

Some cracked teeth have very few symptoms at all.

That’s why we look carefully for fracture lines during your examination and use photographs when possible to show you exactly what we’re seeing.

Finding a crack doesn’t automatically mean a tooth needs a crown. The location, depth and condition of the tooth all matter.

Sometimes we simply watch it.

Sometimes protecting the tooth before it breaks can prevent a much bigger problem later.

And occasionally, a crack has already traveled far enough that the tooth cannot predictably be saved.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, my goal is never to treat something simply because it looks imperfect.

It’s to recognize when a tooth is becoming vulnerable—and protect it when the evidence tells us it needs protection.

Let’s talk about GUMS! 😁🦷

They may not get as much attention as your teeth, but your gums have a pretty important job.

They help support your teeth—and healthy gums are an important part of keeping your smile healthy for the long haul.

So, what are your gums trying to tell you?

🩷 Pink and firm? That’s what we like to see.
🩸 Bleeding when you brush or floss? Don’t just assume that’s normal.
😬 Red, puffy or tender? Inflammation may be present.
🦷 Gums pulling away from your teeth? Definitely worth checking.

Here’s the tricky part:

Gum disease often doesn’t hurt.

That means everything can feel fine while changes are happening underneath the surface.

So while teeth tend to get all the glory, today we’re giving a little love to the gums that support them. ❤️

Happy gums. Healthy teeth. Great smile.

We’re here to help you keep all three.

Healthy gums can completely change the way a smile looks. 🦷

Take a look at the difference in this image.

On the left, the gums are red, swollen and inflamed.

On the right, they’re pink, firm and healthy.

One of the most common signs of gum inflammation is also one of the easiest to ignore:

Bleeding when you brush or floss.

Many people assume bleeding gums are normal. Regular bleeding, however, can be a sign that inflammation is present.

And here’s what makes gum disease particularly important to catch early:

It often doesn’t hurt.

You can have significant inflammation—and even begin losing the bone supporting your teeth—without experiencing the kind of pain that would normally send you to the dentist.

That’s why your regular dental examination isn’t just about checking for cavities.

We evaluate the health of the gums and supporting tissues, look for inflammation and bleeding, measure around the teeth, and monitor changes over time.

Healthy teeth need healthy gums.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, our goal is to identify problems early and help you keep both for a lifetime.

We’d rather show you than tell you. 📷🦷

Have you ever had a dentist tell you that a tooth has a crack, an old filling is beginning to fail, or something needs attention—and found yourself thinking:

“I wish I could see what you’re talking about.”

I think you should.

That’s one reason photography is such an important part of how we practice dentistry at Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence.

When I can put a clear, enlarged photograph of your tooth on the screen, our conversation changes.

Instead of simply hearing my description, you can see what I see.

I can point out the crack.
Show you the worn area.
Explain what’s happening around an old restoration.
And, just as importantly, show you areas that are healthy and don’t need treatment.

My goal isn’t to convince you to have dentistry done.

It’s to give you enough information to understand what’s happening in your own mouth so that you can make an informed decision about your care.

Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.

And in dentistry, it can make a complicated conversation remarkably simple.

We’d rather show you than tell you.

Missing a tooth? There’s more to replace than what you can see. 🦷

When a tooth is lost, most people naturally think about the empty space in their smile.

But the part of the tooth you could see was only half the story.

Below the gums was a root that helped support the tooth and transferred chewing forces into the jawbone.

That’s one of the things that makes a dental implant different from many other tooth-replacement options.

An implant is placed in the jaw to replace the missing root. Once it has integrated with the bone, we can use it to support a natural-looking new tooth.

But successful implant dentistry isn’t simply about putting an implant where a tooth used to be.

We need to consider the available bone, gum tissue, bite, neighboring teeth, important anatomy—and ultimately where the final tooth needs to be.

That’s why careful planning matters.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, we use 3D imaging and digital technology to help us evaluate and plan implant treatment before we begin.

The goal isn’t just to fill an empty space.

It’s to restore a tooth that looks natural, functions well, and was thoughtfully planned from the beginning.

Your crown. One visit. 🦷

For years, getting a dental crown usually meant two appointments, a temporary crown, and waiting a couple of weeks while a dental laboratory made the final restoration.

Digital dentistry has changed that.

At Dr. Dondo Dental Excellence, we use CEREC technology to design and create many porcelain crowns right here in our office—often in a single appointment.

We digitally scan your tooth instead of relying on a traditional impression. Then I design your restoration on the computer, and your new crown is precisely milled from a high-quality ceramic material right here in the office.

Once it’s ready, we can try it in, make any necessary adjustments, and permanently place it.

No temporary crown.
No second appointment.
No waiting weeks for your tooth to come back from a lab.

Technology doesn’t replace careful dentistry. It gives us better tools to provide it.

And when those tools can also save our patients another trip to the dentist, that’s technology with a purpose.
