That's why we're bringing back our second annual Juneteenth event, where Dr. Morris is doing free extractions for the community all day on June 18th. No catch. Just our way of helping our neighbors in Bellwood, Maywood, Melrose Park, and across Chicagoland get one step closer to being their healthiest selves.

Last year, we helped over 20 people. This year, our goal is to double that — but we can't do it without you. There are only 40 slots available, and once they're gone, they're gone.

The result is what matters. Not the excuse.

I hear them all. "I'm scared of the dentist." "I don't have the money right now." "I'm embarrassed." "I haven't been in years." Whatever the reason – it's real, and I'm not dismissing it.

But here's what I want you to think about. The healthiest version of you is also the smartest version of you. The most confident version. The least stressed version. The one who smiles in pictures. The one who isn't walking around in pain anymore.

Dentistry is my art.

I mean that. It's the thing I do that I'd still want to do even if nobody paid me. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I wouldn't stop. I'd just fly around the country helping people who don't have access – the folks who've never even heard of half the procedures we do here. That'd be my life.

The money side of dentistry sometimes gets in the way of the art. It's like being a painter who has to keep selling canvases just to afford more paint. I just want the brushes and the canvas. I just want to help people get healthier.

But the money thing isn't going away, so we work around it. The savings plan. The Juneteenth event. The walk-in policy. All of it exists so the art can keep happening.

I never got the Porsche.

If you've been following for a while, you might have heard how I got into dentistry in the first place.

I was in a call center. The guy next to me had a dad who was a dentist, drove a Porsche, and that planted a seed. I thought, "What am I doing here?"

But let me tell you, the Porsche might have sparked my interest in dentistry, but it was never the motivating factor. I got a kid instead. Can't have a Porsche if you got a kid!

I became a dentist because I enjoy people a whole lot. The drug dealers, the mayors, the "normal" people, the celebrities. Everybody has teeth. So you get to meet everybody. And people are so interesting — they come in and they've got so many things going on in their lives. Every person in my chair has a story.

Plus, I'm good at it. And when you have something you're good at, I think you should just do more of it.

I get to operate a business. I get to learn new procedures because dentistry is advancing all the time. I get to lead an incredible team. It's satisfying in a way I didn't expect when I started.

Every day in this office, something special happens — and most patients never see the behind-the-scenes of it. Shauna holding everything together before the first patient walks in. Dema patiently walking someone through their payment options so finances never stand between them and their health. Daniela making sure every corner of that treatment room is spotless — and yes, if I'm not meeting her standards, she will kindly move me out of the way. 😄 Kendra having honest conversations with patients because she cares about their actual health, not just making the visit comfortable. And our whole team — genuinely showing up for each other and for every single person who walks through that door.

I always say I have the best team in the business. I mean it. These women are smart, dedicated, and they genuinely like each other. They celebrate birthdays together. They check on each other. That energy? Patients feel it the moment they walk in.

Every person on my team has one thing in common — they love being here.

I don't need somebody with ten years of dental experience. I need somebody who's personable, trainable, and shows up. If you're supposed to be at work at 9:30 on a Wednesday, and I pull up at 9:20 and you're already sitting in the parking lot — that tells me a lot about who you are.

That's the kind of person taking care of you here. Somebody who's eager to learn, eager to grow, and brings energy into the room. Nobody at Smile Success is going through the motions.

Everybody is engaged, everybody is learning, everybody is moving.

Some patients tell me they chose me *because* I'm a Black doctor.

One man said something I'll never forget. He told me that in this country, Black people get held back so much that for me to become a doctor, I had to excel — because some of us have to run to the same places others get to walk to.

He's right. I worked hard to get here. And I have not stopped working hard. That's exactly why I can offer so many different treatments under one roof. You don't have to go bouncing from office to office to get the specialty care you need. I do it myself, right here.
