A week serving the people in San Luis Rio Colorado in Sonora, Mexico with (MdC). āMdC works on the Mexico side of the US border serving migrant and refugee families, primarily from Southern Mexico and Central America who have fled extreme poverty, violence, and/or dangerous environmentsā (Website).
I was able to serve with my husband, reunite with my Wellesley sisters and the people from our Boston church, for the annual MdC Medical Fair (medical, vision, dental). What a great organization and amazing work they are doing in the community. This was a different kind of poverty. The streets were not paved, no street signs, just endless sand/dirt/dust everywhere, in the desert. Even if I wanted to, I couldnāt go for a run or walk due to too much dust and fear of getting lost. All of the streets look the same! The people were so kind and generous. The MdC group is so amazing. Providing hope in an area where itās impossible to have any. Hearing the stories over the years, they are making a huge difference in the community especially in providing education through their school. We were so fortunate to have cooler than usual weather in the low 90s!
