Why We’re Watching the Delta Dental Transparency Lawsuit
At Galliano Family Dentistry, we pride ourselves on providing elite General and Cosmetic dentistry to the Baton Rouge community. However, as an out-of-network provider, we’ve seen a growing trend that deeply concerns us: patients being misled by their own insurance coverage.
A new 2026 class-action lawsuit alleges that Delta Dental has been misrepresenting out-of-network benefits. While their brochures often promise “80% to 100%” coverage for out-of-network care, the lawsuit claims they calculate these percentages based on secret, internal price lists rather than the actual fair market rates (UCR) in our area.
How This Impacts Our Dental Partners & Patients:
As a General and Cosmetic Dental Office, the majority of our patients come to us through the trusted referrals. We believe that trust should extend to the financial side of care.
If Delta Dental is held accountable, it will:
• Eliminate “Surprise Bills”: Patients will finally have access to the internal “allowable amounts” insurers use, allowing for accurate pre-treatment estimates.
• Support Patient Choice: Patients shouldn’t be financially “punished” for choosing their own Dentist that they feel comfortable with and trust.

We stand with our patients and our referring partners in demanding a higher standard of transparency from insurance carriers. Everyone wins when patients can make informed decisions about their health. MORE INFORMATION:

Your heart health, brain health, and even gut health are intimately tied to your oral health, and one cannot be improved without addressing the other.
"Gum disease is linked to several different diseases. There is a clear link between periodontitis and diabetes.” According to the National Health Service, developing gum disease can also increase your risk of stroke, heart attack, Alzheimer’s and pre-term low birth weight babies.
The first step towards a beautiful, healthy smile is to call our office! Let our family take care of yours! 🦷❤️🩺

Many people think gum disease only affects the mouth — but its impact can extend throughout the body.

Periodontal (gum) disease is more than bleeding gums or loose teeth.
It is a chronic inflammatory infection that allows oral bacteria and inflammatory mediators to enter the bloodstream, influencing multiple organ systems.

Scientific research has linked untreated periodontal disease with:

🔹 Cardiovascular disease – increased risk due to chronic inflammation

🔹Diabetes – a bidirectional relationship affecting blood sugar control

🔹Respiratory diseases – aspiration of harmful oral bacteria

🔹Rheumatic conditions – inflammation-related joint involvement

🔹Neurodegenerative disorders – including associations with Alzheimer’s disease

The mouth is not separate from the body.
It is a gateway to systemic health.
Maintaining healthy gums through professional dental care, daily oral hygiene, and early periodontal treatment is not cosmetic dentistry — it is preventive medicine.

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area stops receiving normal chewing stimulation. Without this mechanical signal, the body begins to gradually break down the unused bone — a natural process known as bone resorption.

Studies indicate that as much as 25% of the jawbone volume can be lost within the first year if a missing tooth is not replaced. This loss primarily affects the alveolar bone, the part of the jaw that holds the teeth in place, and it occurs most rapidly during the first 6 to 12 months after tooth loss.

As bone resorption continues, neighboring teeth may shift, bite alignment can change, facial contours may alter, and placing dental implants later can become more challenging. What may seem like a minor issue — one missing tooth — can slowly compromise overall oral function and stability.

Timely replacement of missing teeth, particularly with solutions that restore natural chewing forces, plays a critical role in preserving jawbone density, facial support, and long-term oral health.
