A cracked tooth does not always cause constant pain.

Some cracks hurt only when you bite, release pressure, or drink something cold. Others are found during an exam before the symptoms become obvious.

Treatment depends on where the crack is, how deep it extends, and how much healthy tooth remains.

A tooth does not always need to be in severe pain before the nerve needs attention.

Deep decay, a crack, or past trauma can affect the inside of a tooth before symptoms become obvious. An exam helps determine what is happening and whether the tooth can be treated and preserved.

The goal of root canal treatment is not simply to stop pain. It is to remove infection or damaged tissue while helping keep the natural tooth whenever possible.
