🔎 Orthodontists Screen — Physicians Diagnose
Orthodontists can help identify risk factors for sleep-disordered breathing, but only a physician can diagnose conditions like obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Diagnosis typically requires medical evaluation and sleep testing.
📋 Screening Tools Matter
Effective screening often includes validated questionnaires such as the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire or STOP-Bang — not just a visual exam of the mouth or airway.
📸 Imaging Has Limits
CBCT scans and X-rays can show anatomy, but they cannot determine how the airway behaves during sleep. Airway collapse occurs while we are asleep, which imaging alone cannot measure.
🦷 Orthodontic Treatment Can Be Part of Airway Care
