This patient was referred by an orthodontist for post-orthodontic bonding. I initially expected a routine diastema closure or minor edge bonding, but instead we were faced with a significant black triangle that developed after treatment.

To create the most natural and harmonious result, I incorporated pink composite to recreate the illusion of lost papilla and soften the transition between the teeth. Pink composite is something I use selectively—but in the right case, it can make all the difference.

Now the space blends far more naturally, restoring balance and improving the overall esthetics of the smile.

Some moments are hard to put into words.

I began the Accreditation process not fully understanding what it would require, but I finished it having gained so much more than I ever expected. Before I had even submitted my first case, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In a way, this journey gave me something to hold onto—something to focus on beyond the treatment.

Through it all, I kept going. I completed my cases and, most importantly, showed my children that it’s possible to move forward—even thrive—through adversity with effort, resilience, and a positive mindset.

Sharing this moment with my family, my dental friends, and my incredible team of women made it even more meaningful. I’m so grateful to my patients and friends who supported me every step of the way.

Forever grateful for the journey—and not finished yet. I’ll be back on that stage for Fellowship.

Not every case is dramatic.

An older composite with staining and marginal decay, refreshed with a seamless, natural result. Thoughtful dentistry in the details.

I went to my first AACD meeting knowing only one person. I remember eating lunch alone in my room, not quite ready to put myself out there.

Everything changed after I joined an online course with Karla Soto. At the next AACD meeting, I connected with others from that group, and in the process, found my people.

We formed a study group and began meeting monthly to share cases, support one another, and stay accountable through the accreditation process. What started as a few conversations turned into something much more meaningful.

I had just undergone a double mastectomy when I met this group, and they have stood by me through multiple reconstructive surgeries, encouraging me to keep going during moments when I felt overwhelmed and wasn’t sure I could continue.

Two of us recently passed accreditation, and our group celebrated by sending flowers, such a simple gesture, but one that meant so much.

My BABs group is truly made up of some of the most genuine, supportive people I’ve ever met. I’m so grateful for them. I don’t think I would have even started submitting cases without their encouragement.

Years after having an implant placed overseas, this patient came to us unhappy with the visible metal show-through and the asymmetry of the gingival margin. Because the implant had been placed too shallow, achieving an ideal result required thoughtful restoration within significant anatomical limitations. We started with a new provisional and allowed it to gently sculpt the tissue over time. The final improvement was subtle but significant, and the patient was absolutely thrilled.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have attended the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry’s Annual Meeting for the first time. It was an extraordinary experience.

I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Betsy Bakeman for the generous invitation. Being surrounded by so many talented clinicians — especially female dentists I admire — was both inspiring and energizing.

The caliber of the lectures was exceptional, and I return to practice feeling challenged, motivated, and creatively renewed. It was also a joy to reconnect with USC mentors and faculty, spend time with dear friends, and experience the warmth of such a remarkable professional community.

I sincerely hope this is the first of many meetings to come.

This patient unfortunately experienced a challenging start to her treatment journey. After having her two front teeth extracted, she was informed that implants could not be placed—an unexpected misstep that ultimately led to greater bone loss than ideal for adjacent implants.

A specialist was later able to place the implants, but the esthetic outcome still fell short. We redesigned and replaced her provisionals to restore proper gingival levels, eliminate black triangles, and create harmony with the surrounding teeth.

She was thrilled with the improvement—and before you ask, yes, the darker lateral incisor is part of phase two. She’s currently in a provisional while we await the final restoration from the lab.

Stay tuned for the final reveal.

I spent three days in Los Angeles with dos amigos at the Perio Amigos course, focusing on soft-tissue management to better support esthetic outcomes. Learning how to augment and manage tissue thoughtfully is essential to creating predictable, long-term results for our patients.

Grateful for the opportunity to continue refining the details that truly elevate esthetic dentistry and grateful for the dental friends I’ve met along the way that I continue to grow with.

This patient suffered trauma while on vacation, falling and fracturing her two front teeth. Previous bonding attempts elsewhere never felt right and continued to chip and fail. After a thorough evaluation of her bite, we decided to revisit composite bonding with a more intentional approach.

All existing material was removed, and the teeth were carefully layered using a customized composite recipe to achieve improved strength and natural esthetics. The result is balanced, seamless, and far more durable.

The patient was thrilled with the outcome—and so were we.
