Kids aren’t supposed to outgrow being tired. 💤

The younger the child, the MORE sleep their growing brain and body actually need — but it’s not just about hours in bed. Quality sleep matters just as much.

Restless sleep, mouth breathing, snoring, grinding, frequent waking, or daytime meltdowns can all be signs a child isn’t getting the deep, restorative sleep they need to grow, learn, regulate emotions, and thrive. 🤍”

CPAP doesn’t always love you back, and thats OK!

Oral appliance therapy just might.😏

✨People are often surprised when I tell them this:
oral appliances for sleep apnea do not automatically worsen or cause TMJ issues.

In fact, we frequently see the opposite.

For some patients, repositioning the jaw slightly forward can actually place the joint in a more favorable position, reducing pressure on certain tissues inside the joint and decreasing strain on surrounding muscles.

Add improved breathing and less nighttime clenching/compensation into the mix, and many patients notice fewer headaches, less tension, and improved jaw comfort over time.

Of course, appliance design, bite stability, and proper monitoring matter. But the idea that oral appliances inevitably ‘ruin the TMJ’ simply isn’t what we see clinically.👍🏼

Your CPAP after 3 nights: ends up in a closet next to the treadmill 😭

And honestly… some people take one look at the mask and already know it’s not happening for them🫠

If you have sleep apnea and just cannot tolerate CPAP — or don’t even want to try it — you’re not alone.
For many patients, custom oral appliances made by trained dentists can be a comfortable alternative to help keep the airway open during sleep.

Less Darth Vader vibes. More actual sleep. 💤

❕PARENTS❕
Those “dark circles” under your child’s eyes aren’t always just from being tired.🫩

Mouth breathing—often due to allergies, chronic congestion, or enlarged adenoids—can affect how air moves through the airway and reduce efficient oxygen delivery. This can increase pressure in the facial veins, leading to venous pooling and that shadowed look under the eyes.

It can also be a clue that they’re not breathing optimally during sleep. When sleep breathing is disrupted, the body doesn’t fully recover overnight—even if they’re “asleep” for enough hours.😴

It’s not always just cosmetic—it may be an airway signal worth looking into.

❕THIS IS FOR THE WOMEN OUT THERE❕

Hormones really do a lot… including helping keep your airway open while you sleep 👀

Estrogen and progesterone support the muscles that keep things stable at night. So when those hormones start to shift (hello perimenopause + menopause), breathing during sleep can get a little… less ideal.

If snoring, restless sleep, or waking up tired has started creeping in, it’s not just “getting older.” Your airway might be asking for some attention.

Postmenopausal women are actually at a higher risk for sleep-disordered breathing, so it’s worth getting things checked out.

Better sleep = better everything. And you deserve that 💫

❕Soft foods are convenient—but growing jaws need a challenge.

When kids mostly eat soft, processed foods, their jaws don’t get the stimulation they need to grow wide and strong. Chewing tougher, textured foods helps develop the muscles, supports proper jaw growth, and can even impact airway and breathing long-term.

Think: crisp apples, carrots, meats, nuts (age-appropriate), and anything that makes them actually chew.

Comment below for a link to some feeders that I mention could ease your mind when it comes to hard foods👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Growth happens with use. Little jaws need big work.

VISUAL LEARNERS🤩

Airway blocked → disrupted sleep → exhausted you🫠

Airway supported → better breathing → better life😎

That’s the power of oral appliance therapy!!

I am proud to be able to help patients that can’t tolerate their CPAPs or want alternatives🤍
