Pediatric Dentistry is an age-defined specialty that provides both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence. Pediatric dentists have an additional two to three years of training at university pediatric facilities in addition to four years of dental school and four years of college study. Some pediatric dentists practice general dentistry before specializing, giving them a unique perspective. During these years, they learn how to deal with different behavioral aspects of children, including how to make them feel comfortable in their environment, and to make their overall dental experience pleasant. Orthodontic problems must be diagnosed before treatment begins. Proper diagnosis involves careful study of photographs, x-rays, and dental impressions. Treatment typically lasts from 6 to 36 months, depending on age, and the severity of the orthodontic problem. The most well-known form of Orthodontic treatment is Braces.
