That’s life for a pug❗ 🦷😅

Because of their compact, shortened skull, pugs have 42 adult teeth packed into a relatively small space. There simply isn’t much room between them.

As a result, teeth can overlap, rotate, or grow at unusual angles. Those tight spaces can also make it easier for food particles and bacteria to become trapped, contributing to plaque buildup, tartar, and periodontal disease. 🙁

It’s a great reminder that crowded teeth aren’t just a cosmetic issue. When teeth are difficult to clean, maintaining good oral hygiene becomes even more important❗

And yes… even a tiny pug smile has a lot going on❗ 🐾😁

In 1913, Dr. Alfred Fones founded the first school for dental hygienists in Bridgeport, Connecticut - the Fones School of Dental Hygiene. ❤️

Fones had a pretty forward-thinking idea: dentists should focus on diagnosing and treating dental problems, while specially trained professionals could focus on cleaning teeth and educating patients about oral hygiene, particularly children. 👧🪥

We all know coffee can leave stains on your teeth - but what about your gums❓

Some studies suggest that coffee may have potentially beneficial effects on periodontal tissues, while others have found associations between coffee consumption and poorer periodontal outcomes. In other words, the evidence is mixed and contradictory. 🙂

So instead of giving up coffee altogether, focus on the habits that matter most for your oral health: regular brushing, daily cleaning between your teeth, professional dental care, and paying attention to signs of gum problems. ❤️
