Not me leaving the house this morning without my kiddo and having to turn around, get him out of bed, and back out the door with me. 😝 It’s so easy to get lost in routine, but I have to say… I’m excited for summer and to have my little guy with me on the days we don’t have filled with camp activities. 🥰

Welcome to the neighborhood Stephanie Wu D.D.S.! 🦷 Our team is always thankful for sweet treats, but we love when we get to meet kind and skilled specialist who share our passion for patient care.

Dr. Wu is joining the One Endodontics group in Sterling and is a fellow Tufts Dental grad (where she did her endo residency) and brings years of experience to the operatory. Parents, we love watching your teens and young adults grow up and take charge of their health! Having them come to our office solo is a huge milestone.

To make sure everything goes smoothly (and to avoid the classic “How was the dentist?” / “Fine.” conversation), here are a few quick reminders for when your older kids visit us on their own:

📝 1. The Legal Stuff

**Under 18?** We still need a signed consent form from a parent or guardian before they sit in the chair.
**18 and over?** They are officially legal adults! (Wild, we know.) Because of privacy laws, they will need to sign a release form giving us permission to discuss their treatment with you.

📱 2. The Communication (and Payment) Game Plan

Unless your young adult is entirely responsible for their own scheduling and billing, we need to know how to reach you during their appointment—even just in case of an emergency!
**Want to be in the loop?** We are more than happy to FaceTime you during the exam so you can hear directly from the doc.
**Prefer a recap?** We can record a quick video summary of the appointment! We just need your permission if you’d like your kiddo included in the video.

🕵️ 3. Give Us the Scoop Ahead of Time

Let’s be honest: kids aren’t always the best historians. If they’ve been complaining about a sensitive tooth at home, there’s a 99% chance they will completely forget to mention it to us.

If you have specific concerns, please let us know before they arrive!

🎯 Our Ultimate Goal

We want to keep you informed so nothing falls through the cracks. We’d hate for a tiny, easily fixable cavity to go unscheduled, only for it to be twice the size by the time they come back next summer!

New Smile Unlocked 🔓 Our patient was sure that he would never function well again after years of poorly controlled gum disease, but our team helped him accept what cannot be reversed and embrace a healthier, brighter, and even more handsome future. 🫶🏽

Working closely with local oral surgeon, Dr. Jason Bae, and John Lee of here in Northern Virginia, we were able to plan, execute, and deliver an amazing Smile Design Rehab without the patient ever being without teeth. Hybrid implant supported prosthetics allow patients to regain confidence and functionality without ever worrying about dentures falling out, dropping on the bathroom floor, or fitting poorly in their mouths.

👀 SPOTTED this weekend : Sunsets, Straight Teeth, and Sombreros. ☺️ Dr. Keith Brassfield, owner of and my good friend, appreciates the importance of alignment and his journey is part of his total health routine. The sunset and dude in a sombrero — that’s the universe making sure our evening aligned for my perfect Instagram caption. 💛

I am truly so thankful for Keith and his wife — owner of and their studio in Gainesville. Despite being such a power couple they are so intentional in how they spend time with friends and how they are raising their family. As small business owners, aligning our business aspirations with our personal life goals can be so difficult. Surrounding ourselves with others that “just get it” helps us stay grounded and focused on the right things. We are all in this to help our community live healthier lives and feel better after being under our care. ✨ And we want our children to see what human care and friendship looks like. ✨

🔓 Unlocking new skills and heating things up with new tech! Last week’s all-day training with Annie was top notch. And I am so proud of my team for showing up with eagerness to learn. 💛

Our patients value quality, precision, and convenience. Our upgraded 3D printing workflow with the Pro 2 delivers all of the above and I am excited to help patients in more ways than ever before. From custom sports guards, emergency retainers or tooth replacement, to custom no-prep veneers and flexible dentures. We are now able to provide a wider variety of solutions to meet patients’ needs and overcome limitations.

Fun Fact: I graduated with a degree in computer science and my first career was in graphic design — so I’m super excited to nerd out over 3D printing! 👩🏻‍💻

Every woman on the planet will go through perimenopause and menopause — and these hormonal shifts can impact the quality and quantity of our saliva. This change, even if barely detected by a woman, can increase her risk for cavities, gum disease and inflammation, discomfort during function and (something I totally failed to mention in the video) bad breath.

This is a first in a series of videos in which I will explore and discuss how this phase in a woman’s life can impact and be impacted by her oral health.

Stressing the importance of building a good relationship with your dental care team. And seeking care from dentists and hygienists who are paying attention to your changing needs, recording baselines at each visit to identify shifts when they occur, and have the time built into their schedule to have conversations about your shared concerns and goals. Comprehensive dental care is a key component of your overall health.
