Gum grafting is a surgical procedure that restores gum tissue lost to recession — covering exposed root surfaces, reducing sensitivity, and protecting against further recession and decay. It may be recommended when recession is causing sensitivity or pain, when root surfaces are at risk of decay, when the recession is likely to continue, or for cosmetic improvement of the smile. Modern techniques have made grafting significantly more comfortable with much faster recovery than in the past!

Did you know? The bacteria linked to gum disease can spread through saliva, such as kissing or sharing utensils or toothbrushes, but whether gum disease develops depends on how strong your own oral hygiene and gum health are. Daily care and regular checkups make a big difference.
