Here's the simplest explanation of fluoride we have, and it actually holds up.

Teeth are built out of millions of tiny pieces called molecules, all attached to each other. Those pieces are not sitting still. All day long, depending on what your kid eats and drinks, they break apart a little and then rebuild. Break apart, rebuild, over and over.

Fluoride is the glue.

It works its way in among those pieces and holds them together more tightly, so they are far less likely to come apart in the first place. A tooth with fluoride on it is simply harder to break down than a tooth without it.

That is the whole mechanism. No mystery to it.

Which is why the topical fluoride treatment at the end of a cleaning is not an upsell and it is not a formality. It takes about a minute, your kid gets to pick the flavor, and the research behind it is about as settled as research gets. Fewer cavities. Consistently.

So if you have ever wondered why we do it at every single visit, that is your answer. The glue wears down over time. We put more on.

Fall sports are in full swing in Argyle, which means we're going to say the mouthguard thing again.

Here's the part parents don't always hear. Baby teeth are not just placeholders you can shrug off if one gets knocked out. They are holding space for the permanent teeth coming in behind them. Lose one early and the neighbors start drifting into the gap, and suddenly you have an orthodontic problem that nobody signed up for.

A mouthguard on a six year old looks a little silly. A missing front tooth for the next four years looks worse.

Soccer, flag football, basketball, skateboarding in the driveway. If there is a ball or wheels involved, it is worth it.

October is National Dental Hygiene Month, so we are kicking it off with the least complicated advice we give all year!

Two minutes. Twice a day. That's it. That's the entire assignment.

The catch is that two minutes feels like nine minutes when you're six years old, so why not make it easier on everybody?

Play one song.
Use a timer.
Let them brush your teeth first if that is what it takes to get a turn.
Trust us, we've seen stranger negotiations work.

Whatever gets you to TWO MINUTES is the right method. 🪥

We hope you came by to see us during the Argyle ISD Homecoming Fair last week!
