When significant upper-jaw bone loss makes traditional dental implants difficult, zygomatic implants may offer another path.

Because they anchor in the cheekbone instead of relying only on the area where the teeth were previously located, they can support reconstruction in carefully selected patients.

At OMS Fox Cities, treatment begins with a detailed evaluation and a plan based on each patient’s individual anatomy, health, and goals.

Severe bone loss doesn’t always mean the end of the dental implant conversation.

For certain patients who lack enough upper-jaw bone for traditional implants, zygomatic implants may provide another option. These specialized implants anchor in the cheekbone to support a full reconstruction.

Every patient’s anatomy and needs are different. A detailed evaluation helps determine which approach may be appropriate.

"She came back for her final pictures, and she just glowed."

“It reminds me why we do these things—to help people.”

“It was my turn to take care of myself.”

After years devoted to raising her family, one patient came to Dr. Bergstrom ready to address a challenging jaw condition that orthodontics alone could not fully correct.

Through careful coordination between her orthodontist and oral surgeon, her treatment helped improve her bite, airway, dental health, and facial balance. But the moment Dr. Bergstrom remembers most is seeing her return for her final photographs—glowing with confidence.

Stories like hers are a heartfelt reminder of why we do what we do: to help people live healthier and feel more like themselves.

Every patient and treatment journey is unique. Schedule an evaluation with OMS Fox Cities to learn what options may be appropriate for you.

“Recovery is easier when patients understand what to expect before they leave our office.”

— Dr. Christopher A. Bergstrom

After oral surgery, patients are provided with detailed instructions to help guide healing at home, including rest, diet, swelling, oral care, and when to contact the office with concerns.

07/09/2026

Knowing what to expect after oral surgery can make recovery feel a lot less overwhelming.

After a procedure, patients receive detailed post-operative instructions both verbally and in writing. These instructions may include how to manage bleeding, swelling, medications, diet, oral care, rest, and activity during the first few days of healing.

A few general reminders:
Rest the day of surgery, keep your head elevated, follow medication instructions carefully, and stick with soft foods and cold fluids at first. The next day, most patients can begin gently increasing their diet as comfort allows and may start warm salt water rinses as directed.

Every patient and procedure is different, so it’s important to follow the specific instructions provided by your surgical team.

At Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Fox Cities, our goal is to help patients feel informed, prepared, and supported before, during, and after treatment.

Feeling nervous before oral surgery is completely normal.

At Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Fox Cities, patients may have different sedation options available depending on their procedure, comfort level, and individual needs.

Dr. Matthew T. Swanson explains that options like local anesthetic, nitrous oxide, and IV sedation can help create a more comfortable experience — whether a patient needs simple numbing, light relaxation, or deeper sedation for higher anxiety.

The goal is always the same: helping each patient feel informed, comfortable, and cared for throughout their procedure.
