We are so sad to report our friends at Blue Door Massage Therapy lost their space in a severe fire that occurred overnight last week. Many of our patients have loved connecting with Blue Door for TMJ and full-body relief over the years. ROOTED IN TIME - A historical perspective of our practice location!

Introducing this new series where you can learn all about the history of our practice and Ann Arbor!

1/ Our practice is located on the corner of N. Ingalls & Catherine St. in the old Fourth Ward of Ann Arbor, Michigan. We’ve taken a deep dive to research the first settlers of this property, and found an 1853 map which shows a house on our property!

Later census & directory data reveal the house to be 48 Catherine St.

The first name to appear in the 1868 City Directory was Catherine Boyd, along with her two children, Thomas and Julia Boyd.

This home likely was demolished or burned down sometime in the late 1890s, as you’ll learn in later posts.

Interestingly, we can find some old dental advertisements in many of the directories. We can’t help but wonder if Catherine & her children ever went there for care!

Another friend was initiated into the No Cavity Club 🙅‍♀️🦠🦷 this week!

Dr. Sciancalepore has been busy seeing lots of pediatric patients recently! We love having kids in our office because prevention and good habit-building starts young. It’s very important for children to feel comfortable during appointments so we can continue making a positive association with dental visits & oral hygiene at home.

Did you know that you should bring your child in for their first dental visit by 12 months of age or within 6 months of getting their first tooth? 😲

These appointments are a wonderful resource for mom, dad, and other caregivers to learn more about infant oral health, expectations as the child grows, and early screenings for airway or growth deficiencies.
