Abbott Family Dentistry LLC We are a friendly, high tech dental office that focuses on each patient's individual dental needs.

We have always been proactive with infection control so be assured, this is a safe place to be seen in this era of Covid-19 infection control concerns. Federally mandated nondiscrimination clause: Personally I would never discriminate so the need for this statement is redundant but here it is. At Abbott Family Dentistry, LLC we meet all federal and state laws on nondiscrimination.

Due to high demand from both new patients and patients returning from a self imposed Covid-19 pandemic time out, we are not accepting new patients until Jan. 2nd, 2023. We are currently booking new patents for Jan. 2nd, 2023 and later. This closure to new patients through the end of the year was necessary in order to make sure I can meet the needs of my current patients.
Sincerely,
Robert P. Pierson, DDS

There is a new product I am advising people to consider. It is a very expensive tooth gel called "LIVFRESH" Great product for those who don't want fluoride in their tooth paste as it promotes remineralization of the teeth without the fluoride. Better product for those who are battling bad gingivitis and periodontitis. Our price is $17 / tube, $16.50/tube if purchasing 3 or more. Removes plaque 250% better than normal tarter control tooth paste. Google LIVFRESH and check it out.

Today (4/28/2021) the ADN ran a story that starting Monday (May 3rd) by order of the Municipality of Anchorage, some social distancing restrictions will be removed. The easing of social distancing rules do not apply dental offices. Certain regulatory organizations have dominion over dental care in Alaska and these organizations carry the weight of law. The municipality of Anchorage, The CDC, OSHA, the State of Alaska, and the Alaska Dental Board, have authority to regulate how we provide care in Alaska. Dental offices are required to follow the most stringent regulations from these agencies. Currently the Alaska Dental Board has the most stringent rules. The State of Alaska has let Health Mandate 15 expire; however, the Alaska Dental Board has directed all dental practices in Alaska to continue to follow Health Mandate 15. This means avoiding the use of waiting rooms when possible, not seeing patients for non emergency/urgent care if they have traveled out of state regardless of Covid-19 vaccine status, wearing a mask unless you are receiving treatment in the treatment room, and enforcing 6 foot social distancing. So please understand that though you may not be required to follow Health Mandate 15 rules elsewhere, for now, dental offices in Alaska must still follow Health Mandate 15 rules.

Just got this info from the American Dental Association. For those of you that are unfortunate enough to be able to deduct your medical expenses on your 2020 tax return, the IRS has stated that expenses spent on face masks, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizers used for yourself, spouse, and dependents are tax deductible. Note: they stated that it is not deductible if flexible spending and medical savings accounts were used for the purchases. Hope this info helps.

Good news for those who care. All employees at our dental office have gotten our 2nd Covid-19 vaccine. For those who are really concerned, we will be two weeks post 2nd vaccine dose on Feb 15, 2021. Also, our high air filtration system and patient screening seems to be working. No reports of Covid-19 from or into my practice!

It was just a matter of time. Covid-19 low cost gas bottomed out at stayed there for months and months (this was at Costco). About 2 weeks ago I filled my tank and gas had finally gone up by $0.04 a gallon. I filled up again today and it had gone up another $0.07 a gallon. Why am I bringing this up? Many, me included, are worried about rampant inflation the next few years. Cost for everything seems to be going up. Unfortunately, this will affect the cost of health care, my practice is not immune to these increased costs! The cost for masks, gloves, and disinfection supplies my costs have increased anywhere from 200% to 500%. So what does this mean? Last year I only increase fees on a few things, (gold crowns for instance because the cost of gold has gone up so much). I did not want to add to my patients financial problems by increasing fees. So last year was a year of not adjusting for inflation for most fees while the cost of my providing care to you has gone up more than usual. Please know that I will endeavor to keep costs as low as I can while still providing excellent health care, without reducing the time needed to do it right, and without switching to lower quality dental materials used for your care. That being said, I did have to increase fees 3% this year. A financial group that advises dentists on fee increases advised I first adjust my fees for not increasing them last year, then another 4% fee increase for this year on top of that, (this was to recapture / rebalance the compounding effect of annual fee increases). It is my hope that you recognize that I could not continue to hold fees at the same level another year and still provide you the care you deserve. I hope you all well in these uncertain times! Sincerely, Robert P. Pierson, DDS

Some news for patients who like to use Care Credit. Unfortunately we will no longer be able to accept Care Credit as of today. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. New fees are to be imposed this month and due to these fees, we have stopped our account with Care Credit.

Full time dental assistant wanted (part time are also invited to apply). Abbott Family Dentistry, LLC is looking for a well qualified dental assistant, (Please do not apply if you don't have dental assistant experience).. We all work together as a team to make the job easier. Minimum requirements are a basic understanding of dental assisting, excellent infection control, good communication skills, and the ability and desire to learn. We are a well established small single dentist office that focuses on the patients needs more than production. If you like the thrill of a fast pace, multi dentist office that sees as many patients a day as possible, this is not the office for you. For better patient care and for patient and employee safety the assistant is given the time needed to do the task at hand, (the more experienced dental assistants will understand why I point this out). Pay depends on experience but in general, we pay well for good people. In this time of Covid-19, everyone is correctly concerned about aerosol in the dental office. We do not think OSHA is a dirty word and infection control here is important to us. We do provide a safe work space. We have been managing dental aerosol with the Isolite since 2008. We also have extra oral suction devices that help manage the aerosol as it leaves the mouth. Finally, we have ordered what is claimed to be the best in the world air purifiers that will be put in place as soon as they arrive. Our goal is to continue to provide a safe working environment for our employees while providing excellent health care to our patients. If interested please call 907-336-8478 or send an e-mail to [email protected].

More Covid-19 news for our office. We also have implemented Surgically Clean Air air purifiers. This is Ultra HEPA (.1 micron filtration) and charcoal filtration, and UVC light, and catabolic germ killing, and ion production for removal of particles from the air, and room filtering over 9 times an hour, and rated to clean an area the size of our office well enough to meet standards required in a hospital operating room. This is in addition to the two specialized devices that capture aerosol, one before it leaves the mouth and the other after it leaves the mouth. This is all for your protection as well as ours!
