In tens of thousands of patients, not one cancer patient without an oral infection.
Dr. Michelle isn't claiming root canals cause cancer. What her clinical experience shows is more nuanced: a chronic oral infection places a sustained burden on the immune system. When the immune system is occupied managing that infection, its ability to identify and clear abnormal cell changes is reduced.
It's not about the tooth in isolation. It's about what that tooth is doing to the rest of your body.

Most dentists remove mercury fillings the same way they placed them. At Total Care Dental, we follow a completely different protocol to protect you before, during, and after removal. Dr. Mac walks you through exactly what that looks like and why it matters for your health. Save this if you've been thinking about getting your mercury fillings out.

If your child has crooked teeth, this is worth understanding.
Crooked teeth are often a sign that the jaw hasn't developed enough room for the airway. And a restricted airway at night creates a cascade of problems that don't look like breathing problems on the surface.
Dark circles. Trouble focusing. Bedwetting. ADHD symptoms. Growth issues.
We reach for labels and medications when sometimes the most important question is: is this child getting enough air?
Palate expansion done early can change the trajectory. The jaw is most responsive when kids are young, which is why catching this in childhood matters so much.

In dental school, Dr. Michelle was told she'd lose her license if she told patients their fillings could affect their health.
Research now shows mercury fillings release v***r continuously. Mercury is a neurotoxin. For some patients, that connection shows up as unexplained memory issues, migraines, or chronic headaches.
If you've been searching for answers and no one has looked at your dental history, it may be worth the conversation.

"It looks fine." Famous last words in dentistry.
She came in with a feeling. Her root canal just didn't feel normal. Standard X-rays showed nothing wrong.
But we ran a 3D CBCT scan — and there it was. A quarter-sized hole in her jawbone, completely invisible to conventional imaging.
That case changed how we practice at Total Care Dental.
Every new patient gets a full 3D scan. Not because we're being overly cautious. Because we've seen what standard X-rays miss.
You deserve to be fully seen.
Save and share this if you think more dentists should be asking "what am I not seeing?"

Sugar doesn't cause cavities. Here's what actually does.
Bacteria eat the sugar. They leave acid on your tooth. The acid dissolves the minerals in your enamel. That's the process.
But there's a second cause most people never hear about: your body pulling minerals from your teeth when it doesn't have enough to go around.
Growing kids. Pregnant women. People under chronic physical stress. All of them have elevated mineral demands. And when the body has to choose between your brain, your heart, and your teeth, your teeth are not going to win.
Your teeth and your bones are mineral stores. When one is depleted, often the other is too.
This is why we look at the whole picture, not just what's on the surface.
Save and share this if you've ever wondered why cavities keep coming back.

Most people treat sleep problems with sleep hacks.
New pillow. Melatonin. Blue light glasses.
But Dr. Michelle sees the real answer every day. Right in her patients' mouths.
Worn bottom front teeth aren't from chewing. They happen when the body shifts the jaw forward at night, trying to open the airway and get more air.
She estimates this pattern affects about 80% of people. And most have never connected it to how they sleep.
If you wake up tired, toss and turn at night, or have been told you snore, your mouth may be telling you something worth listening to.

What does a chronic Epstein-Barr infection have to do with root canals?
More than most people realize.
This patient had been fighting Epstein-Barr for years. Nothing was working. As a last resort, he finally looked at his mouth.
His CT scan revealed:
A massive abscess at the root of a root canal tooth. Another large abscess between the roots of a second root canal. And a sinus full of infection, fed by that same tooth.
All invisible on a regular x-ray. All silently exhausting his immune system.
Epstein-Barr never fully leaves the body. It just turns on or off. When the immune system is consumed by hidden dental infections, it has nothing left.
Removing those infected teeth and replacing them with ceramic implants gave his body a real chance to heal.
3D cone beam CT scans reveal what standard x-rays miss. If you're dealing with chronic illness, it may be time to look more closely.

Her functional medicine doctor sent her to a dentist first.
Not to a surgeon. Not to an oncologist. To a dentist.
She had been diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks earlier. And her doctor knew something that most people don't: what's happening in the mouth can affect what's happening everywhere else in the body.
When we scanned her, both of her root canals showed significant infection — surrounding the entire root.
I'm not saying one causes the other. But in my career, I have rarely seen a patient with a serious chronic illness who didn't also have an unaddressed infection somewhere in the mouth.
If you're navigating a serious health journey, it may be worth asking whether your mouth has been fully evaluated.

Her doctors had been treating her symptoms for years.
POTS. Chronic skin abscesses. Fatigue that wouldn't lift no matter what she tried.
When she came to us and we did a cone beam CT scan, here's what we found: a tooth that had been dying at the root for years — and three wisdom tooth sites that never fully healed. Her immune system had been fighting a constant infection in her mouth the entire time.
Her body wasn't broken. It was overwhelmed.
When your immune system is battling something in your mouth around the clock, it has less capacity for everything else. We removed the sources of infection, and her body finally had a chance to catch up.
If you have a chronic condition that hasn't responded to treatment, your mouth may be worth a closer look.
