She was 32, a busy mom, and exhausted before her day even started.
She had already asked her dentist about it. Every regular x-ray came back looking fine. But she still woke up tired and could not figure out why.
So we looked at a cone beam CT scan, which shows things a flat x-ray simply cannot. That is where we found it. An old root canal with a large abscess that had worn a hole through the outside of her jawbone. Then a second abscess on a tooth that never even had a root canal.
A standard dental x-ray missed both. This is why the whole picture matters so much. The cause was sitting just outside the view of the usual scan.
