Teething tips from a pediatric dentist & mom:
1. Oral analgesics like Motrin or Tylenol are the only medications proven to reduce teething pain 💊
2. Skip Orajel or other topical benzocaines entirely 🚫 They don’t pe*****te deeply, so they don’t reach the source of discomfort. More importantly, children reach the maximum dosage quickly which can make them unsafe for use.
3. Let the kid chew. My son personally loves silicone teethers but hates cold ones. Use whatever helps your child, but skip teething jewelry, which can raise risk for strangulation and choking.
4. If you breastfeed or give milk, or Motrin/Tylenol overnight (which all contain sugar), make sure to brush in the morning ‼️
5. Know that this too shall pass! If your kid is anything like mine, getting a tooth means being up at all hours of the night. Pour an extra cold brew and know that you’re not alone 🩷

School may be back in session, but there’s still time for the best summer treat 🍦Being cavity free is about mindful choices, not total deprivation! Ice cream is an awesome treat for your kid because unlike gummies which stick to the teeth or Goldfish that are nibbled over long periods, it MELTS and is gone FAST.

Using tools like Tri Plaque ID Gel and hands-on practice, we will teach your child how to brush their teeth properly so they can keep their teeth healthy for a lifetime!

Some things feel pricey until you realize how much they actually save you (and your sanity). Here are some things that are worth it for your child:

1. A filling now instead of a crown later (preventative over reactive, always)
2. IV sedation if your child gets anxious (their comfort matters)
3. Prescription toothpaste for kids in braces (braces = high cavity risk always)
4. Establishing a dental home at age 1 (before your toddler has dental trauma and you have no place to go)
5. Multiple toothbrushes around the house (upstairs, downstairs, in the car)
