🪥 Does your child have the right toothbrush?

When it comes to kids’ oral health, it’s not just about the type of bristles—it’s also how they brush! 🦷

Encourage your child to use gentle pressure and small, circular motions instead of scrubbing back and forth. Brushing too hard can irritate the gums and contribute to enamel wear.

And when choosing between soft, medium, or hard bristles for your child, soft is the way to go! 💙

A soft-bristled toothbrush + gentle technique = a healthier, happier smile! 😁✨

At just 8 years old, Nolan has already started his orthodontic journey—and he's rocking it! 😎

Did you know that routine dental cleanings are even more important when you have braces or orthodontic appliances? Braces create extra places for plaque and food to hide, making it easier for cavities and gum irritation to develop if teeth aren't cleaned well.

Regular cleanings help:
🦷 Remove plaque and tartar around brackets and wires
✨ Keep gums healthy throughout treatment
😁 Prevent cavities and white spots on teeth
🌟 Keep that future smile looking its best!

We're so proud of Nolan for taking great care of his smile and giving us a big thumbs up after his visit! Keep up the awesome work! 💙

🍓🍦 Vanilla or Strawberry? 🍦🍓

Did you know that many dental offices offer flavored laughing gas to make a visit a little more enjoyable?

Laughing gas, also called nitrous oxide, is a safe, mild sedative that is mixed with oxygen and breathed in through a small nose mask. It's commonly used to help patients feel calm and comfortable during dental procedures.

🦷 What does laughing gas do?
• Helps reduce anxiety and fear
• Promotes relaxation while the patient stays awake
• May create a light, tingly, or "floaty" feeling
• Can make longer procedures feel like they go by more quickly

One of the best things about nitrous oxide is that it works quickly and wears off quickly. After the procedure, breathing pure oxygen for a few minutes helps clear the gas from the body, allowing most patients to return to their normal activities shortly afterward.

A little vanilla or strawberry scent, a little relaxation, and a much more comfortable trip to the dentist! 😊🦷

🦷 Did You Know? 🦷

Those tiny teeth hold a pretty amazing secret!

When children lose their baby teeth, the roots don't usually come out with them. As the permanent teeth begin to grow underneath, they slowly dissolve (resorb) the roots of the baby teeth. That's why most baby teeth become loose and fall out with little to no root attached!

In this photo:
🦷 The small tooth on the left was so close to falling out naturally that almost the entire root had already dissolved.
🦷 The two larger teeth were pulled by the dentist to make room for permanent teeth to come in properly. Since they were removed before they were ready to fall out on their own, you can still see most of their roots!

The human body is pretty incredible! 😊

🦷 How Often Does My Child Need Dental X-Rays?

It's one of the most common questions we hear from parents!

🦷 How Often Should Kids Get Dental X-Rays?

Every child is different! Most children benefit from bitewing X-rays once a year to help detect cavities between teeth and monitor healthy development. Some children may need them more or less often based on their oral health.

At Brinton Pediatric Dentistry, we use low-radiation digital X-rays and only recommend them when they're necessary to keep your child's smile healthy.

A little picture today can help prevent bigger problems tomorrow! 💙
