Periodontal Regeneration – Saving a Critical Tooth
This patient presented with a periodontal abscess, infection, and swelling affecting tooth #7 — an important tooth that serves as an abutment for an existing bridge. At REGEN, saving natural teeth is always our priority whenever possible.
Clinical findings showed deep periodontal breakdown, with probing depths of 10 mm at the distal palatal of #7 and 8 mm at the distal buccal of #7.
We performed periodontal regenerative surgery using:
- Bone graft (allograft: FDBA + DFDBA)
- Resorbable membrane
At the 2-week follow-up, the infection and swelling had completely resolved with good healing.
At the 4-month follow-up, radiographs showed bone fill and successful regeneration, and probing depths were reduced to 3 mm or less.
This is a great example of how periodontal regeneration can restore lost bone and help preserve strategically important teeth — even in the presence of active infection.
