Can we talk about the actual reality of dental insurance for a second?
People think dental insurance works like medical insurance — it'll cover everything, right?
So, no. Most dental insurance benefits are basically the same as they were in the 1970s. Back then, those benefits covered a LOT of dentistry. Today? Not so much.
Here's a better way to think about it: dental insurance is more like a discount coupon than health insurance. It helps, but it won't cover everything.
It helps, absolutely. But it's not going to cover everything, especially if you need major work.
We're in-network with Delta Dental, and we work hard to maximize your insurance benefits. We file claims for you, we take all the records we can to get the best payment possible. But we're also realistic with you about what insurance will and won't cover.
Sometimes we'll see a cracked tooth and recommend treatment, but we have to tell patients: "Your tooth isn't broken ENOUGH for insurance to typically cover this. We can ask them, and we'll do everything we can, but usually they want to see a whole chunk missing." We still recommend the right treatment because that's what you need, even when insurance says no.
That's why we offer payment plans through our office, outside financing like CareCredit, and prepayment discounts for people who want to save some money. Because we never want cost to be the thing preventing you from getting healthy.
