While we wrap up National Children’s Dental Health Month, we’d like to leave you with a few tips to maintain your child’s dental health at home.

1. Start brushing with the first tooth. Begin brushing your baby’s teeth when you see one coming in with an infant toothbrush.
2. Once your child’s teeth touch, you can start flossing in between them.
3. Snack healthy! Fruit juice, sports drinks, fruit snacks, and sticky candies all pose serious threats to your child’s teeth.
4. Keep them hydrated! Water helps to rinse away any sugar or particles that can lead to cavities.
5. Replace your child’s toothbrush every three to four months.

These at-home tips are very important to your child’s dental health. Pair these with routine check-ups to ensure a healthy mouth for your child.

A custom-fitted mouthguard developed by a pediatric dentist will protect your child from injuries to the teeth, face and even provide protection from severe injuries to the head.

primary, or “baby,” teeth are important for many reasons?

Not only do they help children speak clearly and chew naturally, but they also aid in forming a path for their permanent teeth to follow when they are ready to erupt.

February is month!

You may be thinking to yourself, “can children get gum disease?” It is not typical to find more severe forms of gum disease in children, but chronic gingivitis is commonly found in kids of all ages.

Here are some symptoms of gum disease in children:
- Bleeding while brushing or flossing your teeth
- Puffiness or swelling of the gums or any indication they look irritated or inflamed
- Bad breath (halitosis) that does not improve despite consistent brushing and flossing
- Receding gum lines that expose the lower part of the tooth

To prevent or treat gum disease in your child, contact us today to schedule an appointment.
