It’s a bittersweet moment here at Acworth Center for Family Dentistry as we celebrate our amazing dental assistant, Yoselin, on her acceptance into Dental Hygiene School in Alabama! 🥹💙

While we are going to miss her more than words can say, we are incredibly proud of her for taking this next big step toward her future. Yoselin has been such a wonderful part of our team, bringing kindness, dedication, compassion, and positivity to our office and to every patient she has cared for.

🦷 DO YOU KNOW YOUR BITE? 🦷

Your smile is about more than straight teeth 🦷 The way your upper and lower teeth fit together plays an important role in your overall oral health.

Some of the most common bite concerns include:

✨ Crowding – Not enough space for teeth to properly align, which can make brushing and flossing more difficult.

✨ Excessive Spacing – Larger gaps between teeth that may affect function, appearance, and gum health.

✨ Underbite – The lower teeth sit in front of the upper teeth when biting down.

✨ Open Bite – The upper and lower teeth do not completely meet, which can sometimes affect chewing or speech.

✨ Deep Bite – The upper front teeth excessively overlap the lower front teeth and may contribute to abnormal tooth wear.

✨ Crossbite – One or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth instead of outside them, potentially causing uneven wear or strain.

💡 Why does your bite matter?

An improper bite , also called a malocclusion, can contribute to uneven tooth wear, difficulty keeping certain areas clean, gum irritation, chewing concerns, jaw discomfort, and changes in the appearance of your smile.

The good news? Many bite concerns can be identified during a routine dental examination, and depending on your individual needs, orthodontic treatment such as clear aligners may be an option.

The most important message for our patients when it comes to getting your dental images

Dental X-rays do involve radiation, so saying they contain “zero risk” would not be scientifically accurate. However, the dose from routine dental radiographs is exceptionally small. For many common dental X-rays, the exposure is comparable to what your body naturally receives from the environment during the course of an ordinary day.

The purpose is also important: we aren’t exposing a patient to radiation without benefit. We are using a very small, focused dose to obtain information that can allow us to identify dental disease earlier, often before it becomes painful, more destructive, or more expensive to treat.
