Thinking About Teeth Whitening? Here’s What You Should Know Before You Start.

Not all teeth whitening treatments work the same way—and some treatments commonly described as “whitening” don’t actually whiten the natural color of your teeth.

Our new Complete Guide to Teeth Whitening explains the differences between professional in-office whitening, dentist-supervised take-home trays, whitening strips, whitening toothpaste, professional polishing, AirFlow®, and internal whitening for root canal-treated teeth.

We also answer common questions patients ask:
🦷 Does teeth whitening damage enamel?
🦷 Why are my teeth yellow even though I brush regularly?
🦷 AirFlow® vs. polishing vs. whitening—what’s the difference?
🦷 Is professional whitening better than whitening strips?
🦷 Can crowns, veneers, fillings, or implants be whitened?
🦷 What causes sensitivity after whitening?
🦷 How long do whitening results last?

At Longwood Dental in Taipei, whitening begins with a professional assessment to understand the cause of discoloration and determine which treatment is appropriate for your teeth. For suitable patients, our professional in-office whitening is designed to provide a noticeable improvement in just one visit.

Read our complete evidence-based guide to learn which teeth whitening option may be right for you.

Do You Need a Root Canal? 7 Warning Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

A toothache doesn’t always mean you need a root canal - but certain symptoms may indicate that the nerve inside your tooth has become severely inflamed or infected.

Watch for signs such as:

• Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold
• Throbbing or spontaneous tooth pain
• Pain when biting or chewing
• Swelling around a tooth or gums
• A recurring pimple or bump on the gum
• A tooth becoming darker
• Pain or swelling around a tooth that previously had a root canal

The good news is that an infected tooth does not automatically need to be extracted. Modern root canal treatment is designed to remove infection, relieve pain, and preserve your natural tooth whenever it can be predictably saved.

And what if you already had a root canal years ago?

A previously treated tooth can sometimes become infected again because of complex or previously untreated canals, new decay, leakage around a filling or crown, or a crack. In suitable cases, endodontic retreatment (re-endo/root canal retreatment) may give the tooth another opportunity to heal without extraction.

At Longwood Dental in Taipei, our approach begins with careful diagnosis. Not every painful tooth needs a root canal, and not every failed root canal needs to be removed.

Our English-speaking endodontists provides root canal treatment and endodontic retreatment with digital imaging, CBCT when clinically indicated, and dental microscope-assisted treatment for appropriate cases.

If you have persistent tooth pain, lingering sensitivity, swelling, pain when biting, or discomfort from an old root canal, earlier evaluation may give us more options to preserve your natural tooth.

Many people think a root canal is something to fear—but modern root canal treatment is actually designed to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and help save your natural tooth.

If you're experiencing:
🦷 Persistent tooth pain
🦷 Pain when chewing
🦷 Sensitivity to hot or cold
🦷 Swollen gums or facial swelling
🦷 An old root canal that has started hurting again

-> it may be time for an evaluation.

At Longwood Dental Taipei, our experienced English-speaking endodontist provides:
✔️ Root canal treatment
✔️ Endodontic retreatment (re-endo)
✔️ Failed root canal evaluation
✔️ Tooth pain diagnosis
✔️ Second opinions for root canal treatment

Did you know? Even if you've had a root canal before, it should still be checked during your regular dental examinations. Old root canal teeth can occasionally become reinfected without causing obvious symptoms, and early detection often improves the chances of preserving your natural tooth.

Our goal is to provide gentle, patient-focused care in a calm and supportive environment, helping you understand your options and feel confident about your treatment.

Conveniently located in Taipei and caring for patients from Dazhi, Neihu, Tianmu, Shilin, Zhongshan, Songshan, Xinyi, and the international community.

• Signs and symptoms of gum disease
• Deep cleaning (scaling & root planing)
• Gum grafting and periodontal surgery
• Treatment costs in Taipei
• Whether periodontal treatment is covered by Taiwan NHI
• How to protect your teeth and gums long-term

If you are looking for an English-speaking dentist or periodontist in Taipei, Neihu, Dazhi, Tianmu, Shilin, or Xinyi, our team is here to help with honest, evidence-based, patient-focused care.
