Taking a blood-thinning medicine does not automatically mean that dental treatment or oral surgery cannot proceed—or that the medicine must be stopped.

The appropriate plan depends on the specific medication, why it was prescribed, the intended procedure and your individual health considerations.

Before your consultation, prepare an updated medication list that includes the name, dose and schedule of each medicine. Let your clinical team know about any previous unusual or prolonged bleeding.

Most importantly, do not stop or change a prescribed blood thinner without advice from the appropriate healthcare professional.

Wisdom teeth may be the most familiar impacted teeth but they are not the only ones.

Other teeth can sometimes remain beneath the gum or bone, become obstructed or fail to erupt into their expected position.

Assessment and appropriate imaging can help determine where the tooth is located, whether nearby teeth are affected and whether monitoring, orthodontic coordination or surgical management may be considered.

Not every impacted tooth requires the same approach. Recommendations depend on the individual clinical findings.

Three full weekends of lectures, hands-on training, and mentorship culminated in a live surgery session at The Oral Maxillofacial Practice, where participants placed their very first dental implants in their own patients.

Guiding so many young dentists as they embark on their implant journey has been immensely rewarding. We wish them every success as they continue to build their skills and confidence, transform the lives of their patients, and achieve great things in the years ahead.

A heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at The Oral Maxillofacial Practice for their tireless support behind the scenes in making the live surgery session a success.

Not every oral or jaw concern requires 3D imaging.

A cone beam CT scan may be considered when a clinician needs a more detailed three-dimensional view of the teeth, jawbone, nerve canals, sinuses or nearby structures. Depending on the findings, this may assist with planning for dental implants, complex impacted teeth, some jaw lesions or facial injuries.

Whether a scan is appropriate depends on the clinical question and whether the additional information is expected to affect assessment or treatment planning. Your clinician can explain why a scan is—or is not—recommended in your case.
