Many parents seek teeth alignment treatment for crowded or crooked teeth, but sometimes the deeper concern may involve breathing, sleep, and jaw development too.

At DP Dental, we take an airway-focused approach that looks beyond the teeth alone. The way a child breathes, sleeps, and positions their tongue can influence how the jaws and airway develop during the growing years.

By supporting healthier oral habits and guiding jaw development early, our approach aims to improve not just alignment, but breathing and sleep quality too.

This World Book Day, we are sharing the story behind EMPOWER: AI Playbook for Women Entrepreneurs in MSMEs.

When the opportunity came to support this initiative, DP Dental saw it as more than just sponsoring a book. We had a simple goal: to make the complex and crowded world of AI more accessible for women building their businesses.

As a and a recognised , we believe businesses have a responsibility to create impact beyond what we do every day.

This playbook, developed in collaboration with James Cook University and Connected Women, is designed to guide, support, and empower women entrepreneurs — whether you are just starting out or looking to grow.

Because sometimes, all it takes is the right knowledge at the right time to change the way you think, work, and lead.

If you’d like to support this initiative, you can get a copy here:
📍 DP Dental Orchard
📍 Avantir Wellness Katong

All proceeds will be channelled to Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations to support programmes that uplift women.

A small book, but hopefully, a meaningful step towards stronger communities.

Dr Yue Weng Cheu , Founder & Clinical Director, DP Dental, had the opportunity to share insights on airway-focused dentistry and sleep solutions at the Smartee booth at IDEM 2026. It was also a great opportunity to engage with clinicians and exchange perspectives and knowledge.

Smartee SA aligners reflect this evolving approach — supporting both teeth alignment and sleep-related concerns within a single solution.

Encouraging to see growing interest in dentistry that goes beyond cosmetics, towards airway health and long-term outcomes.

If you are experiencing persistent tinnitus that has not been resolved by a medical evaluation, it may be associated with the jaw joint. This type is known as somatosensory tinnitus, where sensory input from the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and associated muscles can influence the perception of sound.

Signs to look out for:
Do you notice changes in your ringing, buzzing, or ear fullness when you chew, talk, yawn, or clench your teeth? If so, the source of your tinnitus may involve the jaw—not just the ears.

Why the connection?
The temporomandibular joints sit just millimetres from the ear. They share nerve pathways and anatomical structures with the auditory system. When the jaw does not function optimally, it can alter the sensory input to the brainstem, where auditory and somatosensory signals integrate. Current research suggests this interaction can contribute to or modulate tinnitus in susceptible individuals .

What the research shows:
Studies indicate that tinnitus occurs more frequently in individuals with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) compared to the general population . For some patients, multidisciplinary care that includes addressing jaw function may help manage tinnitus symptoms, though outcomes vary depending on the underlying cause .

At DP Dental, we conduct comprehensive functional assessments to understand the relationship between the stomatognathic system and your symptoms.

Note: This information is for educational purposes. Tinnitus should be evaluated by a medical professional (ENT specialist) to rule out other causes before considering dental or physiotherapy intervention.

As a dental practice, we believe in using business as a force for good — for our patients, our community, and the environment.

The “B” in B Corp stands for Benefit.

Benefit for our patients.
Benefit for our community.
And importantly, benefit for the people who make the work possible every day.

At DP Dental, our B Corp journey isn’t just about policies or frameworks.
It’s about creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and part of something meaningful.

Heres celebrating the people behind the work — the individuals who bring our values to life every day.

Because behind every certified is a team that believes business can be a force for good.

Your mouth doesn’t function in isolation.

Research now describes an oral–gut axis showing how oral bacteria may influence systemic inflammation and overall health.

Periodontal disease has been linked to conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes — which is why oral health matters more than most people realise.

At DP Dental, we look beyond your teeth.
Understanding your oral microbiome helps guide earlier, more personalised prevention.

This , here’s a gentle reminder:
Dental care isn’t just about teeth.
It’s part of whole-body health.

Mouth breathing is common.
But it isn’t how the body was designed to breathe.

Over time, breathing through the mouth can affect posture, facial muscle tone, sleep quality, and inflammation levels in the body.

Many people subconsciously move their head forward to keep the airway open. This forward head posture can strain the neck and jaw and gradually alter facial balance.

One small habit plays a surprisingly important role: tongue posture.

When the tongue rests properly on the roof of the mouth, it helps support the airway and encourages healthy nasal breathing.

At DP Dental, we look closely at the connection between airway health, tongue posture, sleep, and oral function — because the way you breathe can influence far more than your lungs.

13/03/2026

Mouth breathing is common. But it’s never normal.

Your mouth was designed for eating and speaking — not breathing.

Mouth breathing during sleep is linked to:
* reduced oxygen efficiency
* increased risk of snoring and sleep apnea
* dry mouth and oral disease
* altered jaw development in growing children

Healthy sleep begins with healthy breathing.
And healthy breathing starts with the nose.

This remember:
Breathe right. Sleep well. Live long.
