Last week I had the great honour of being invited to support the Next Steps Careers Event for Nexus International School, Singapore.

This was a very special event organised for the students in year 10 but also in the years above, from age 15 to 17/18 years to give them a brief insight into the working world of various careers.

I had the chance to share what it was like to work as a UK-Registered Specialist Paediatric Dentist (Children's Dentist in Singapore) and how much I love my job.

I also took part in giving mock interviews to Nexus students to give them a taste of how an interview might be structured and provided feedback at the end of the session.

This was such a valuable event, I felt, for young learners. Such an impressive event organised for Nexus students by their Deputy Head of Secondary, Mr. Duncan Shiel. If you're thinking of a school that is geared to prepare you for success in the working world, take a look at Nexus and what their team are doing to support their students! It's phenomenal!

Just back from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Annual Conference 2023 in Florida! Was good to attend the conference workshops on Tongue Ties and also view the latest products revolutionising Pediatric/Paediatric Dentistry. Also a great opportunity to meet and make new friends across the globe sharing our love for fixing children's teeth!

Happy Easter to all my lovely patients!
Enjoy those Easter eggs but preferably try to keep your sugars to main meal times to lessen your chances of having tooth decay! Like a treat or dessert straight after lunch or dinner.
And when cleaning your teeth, don’t forget to use a good fluoride toothpaste!

🤔What’s best for your child’s teeth? and when should you use them?
🦷Toothpaste: brush twice a day with toothpaste. How much toothpaste?
Well that depends on your child’s age and risk factors for developing dental disease.
Did you know that the type of toothpaste you use is also very important in controlling a child’s risk of developing cavities? All children should use a minimum of 1000ppm Fluoride toothpaste twice a day. When you are shopping, make sure you look out for this on the ingredients list! There’s a huge variety of toothpastes available to buy but let me tell you, with respect to preventing tooth decay…not all toothpastes are made equal!
🦷Mouthwash: when should you use a mouthwash?
Firstly, I recommend a mouthwash to control a child’s risk of tooth decay AND when they are able to rinse and spit. It’s usually around 5 years old when a child is able to rinse properly when asked to do so.
Secondly, the mouthwash I recommend will also contain the right ingredients to reduce your child’s chances of having tooth decay! A mouthwash with 225ppm fluoride has the right level to reduce a child’s chances of having tooth decay when rinsed at a time other than your morning or evening brushing time. This means a you should use it sometime, perhaps during the day, when your child comes home from school and after he/she has had an afternoon snack, for example.

Spent a fantastic few days meeting new colleagues and friends at the 1st Asian Regional Congress of Dental Traumatology in Agra back in December 2022, a few weeks ago! Here's a few snapshots of my time there.

❓I often get asked, 'Hey Dr. Amanda Lim, why do you attend these conferences?'
💙🤓It's really to keep abreast with current research, techniques and procedures in Paediatric Dentistry to ensure I am always bringing the best to my patients. It is only by constantly sharing with and learning from colleagues that we as clinicians can constantly strive to challenge the fields of Paediatric Dentistry and bring out the best in each other for the good of patient care.

❓Did you know? A large proportion of my job as a Children's Dentist is fixing broken teeth from dental injuries/trauma. Children often experience falls and all sorts accidental injuries which can affect growing teeth. Looking after these special teeth requires careful planning which a Children's Dentist is well placed to do.
