Repost from Dr. Albert Gajdos BDS (Hons)

Porcelain doesn’t have to look fake. Done right, it’s indistinguishable from the real thing.

This patient came to us with old, poorly matched crowns that had started to fail. We replaced them with six handcrafted porcelain crowns and veneers together with Restore - dental lab ; designed from the ground up for an ultra-natural finish.

✔️ 6 handcrafted porcelain crowns & veneers
✔️ Subtle character built in, down to the natural white spots
✔ Shade, translucency & texture matched to the surrounding teeth

The difference isn’t just the porcelain, it’s the detail. Every bit of character here was decided together, between me and the patient, so the result feels like theirs, not a set of “perfect” teeth stamped on top.

Natural doesn’t happen by accident. It’s designed, and takes an understanding of the natural characteristics - same as what we cover on our “Layering” course.

All designs are tailored to patients wishes. Gums still to heal from after photo.

Before and after with minimally invasive feldspathic porcelain veneers using our unique Enamelon approach.

There’s an art to treatment planning and decision making when incorporating the path of least invasion. When considering limiting parameters, functional, biological and aesthetic challenges, we can get extremely creative to optimize long term and aesthetic outcomes. The beauty in this case lies leveraging the asymmetry in the smile to create facial harmony and balance with a smile in motion. Here we see only a static image of the smile, which is merely a single snapshot in a sea of infinite expression. The idea is to create a seemless smile that integrates into the face and serves as the cornerstone for facial harmony and balance. We were able to not only enhance the smile essence, and preserve the original charm that makes each smile natural and unique, we did it in a way with restraint without compromising on a wow factor that grabs attention.

Creating natural smiles doesn’t have to come at the expense of wow factor, as long as it doesn’t add to creating aesthetic stress and visual tension.

The key for this case was to reimagine the smile frame to enhance the tooth-gum-lip dynamic while the smile is in motion.

Side note. Absolutely love this interpretation of the song summer madness. It pays homage to the original while having a unique interpretation of the composition while being very nuanced in its energy. This cover is a great analogy of how we approach capturing the essence of a smile and breathing new life into each work of art.

The sound engineering is so good, reminds me of Derek 'MixedByAli' Ali

Minimally invasive dentistry done thoughtfully to create smile flow and facial balance. Correcting a midline slant, minor discoloration, arch flow, and slightly enhancing tooth contours while preserving the original charm of the teeth. Check the next post to see how small modifications can create huge impact; and for this reason the artistry matters. Once the gums fully integrate this case will be seamless.

In a culture where patient autonomy and self guided medicine has become more prevalent, I believe one of the most powerful tools in our creative arsenal is the ability to exercise restraint. Most patients don’t have the langue to communicate expectations on color, in particular. What we used to hear years ago, is that doc, I want the teeth really white but natural. That’s like wanting a zebra but only having the capacity to get a horse with stripes. We now know that really white teeth, and natural are not necessarily opposing characteristics. We can now make teeth have white tones that don’t appear normally in nature but compensate with other properties that create the illusion that the teeth are natural. We focus on color density, and opacity to ensure the teeth don’t appear thick and overly dense. This is a quick give away that the teeth are fake looking. We also put emphasis on the amount of light that passes through the ceramic and how it interacts with the tooth structure underneath in a way to create an absorbing restoration vs something overly reflective.

This restraint isn’t something that happens in the lab alone. It strarts with the vision, which is worked out in the temporary phase. And the temporaries are our gps system to preparing and modifying the tooth structure with all of these properties in mind. This is a huge difference maker.
