Reasons for a retreatment of a previous root canal ?🦷

If you’ve ever had a root canal, you know that it’s not exactly a walk in the park. But sometimes, even after you’ve gone through the whole process, you might need to go back for more. That’s called retreatment, and it’s super important!

* incomplete or missed canals
* salivary contamination of the inside of the tooth
* persistent or new infection
* tooth damage (trauma, fracture, decay, or wear over time, instrument fracture, perforation)
* the placement of the crown/ other restoration was delayed following the original root canal

An endo-resto story 🦷 next up: prepping for zirconia crowns
* Patient showed up with severe pain, caused by the advanced cavities on the superior premolars, due to poor hygiene and delayed treatment from the moment the incipient cavities.
* The patient was staying for only 2 appointments in the country, so I had to explain what should be done vs what could be done in that time frame.
* That level of destuction of the enamel and dentin decreased the resistance of these teeth, so a build up/composite reconstruction especially on the posterior side of the arch where the masticatorry forces are of great significance could lead to fractures, so the correct approach would involve two crowns.
* Time was an issue, so I did RCT on both premolars, and in the next session after the gutta hardened, I did the preparation for the glass fiber posts, cemented the posts and proceeded to do the build up coronal restorations.
* The patient was instructed to protect this area from big occlusal forces, avoid eating hard, crunchy, crispy, tough, and chewy foods in the following period till he returns to get the zirconia crowns.
