A straight smile is synonymous with beauty, confidence and facial harmony. However, to reduce crooked teeth to a purely superficial issue is to ignore a profound impact that extends to our overall health and day-to-day wellbeing.
When teeth are crowded, overlapping or misaligned (what dentists call malocclusion), the mouth becomes a veritable anatomical maze.
Crooked teeth go far beyond aesthetics: they create ‘blind spots’ that are difficult to clean and where bacterial plaque accumulates, increasing the risk of tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontitis. Furthermore, they cause uneven wear of the enamel and strain on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), which can lead to headaches and jaw pain. Straightening them is, first and foremost, a matter of oral health, function and longevity.
