Another case (still in progress) with a beautiful outcome!
Patient with (Capelozza) Pattern II, Class II, vertical growth tendency, dolichofacial, convex profile, deep-bite, and severe dental crowding.
The patient had signif**ant calculus buildup due to poor hygiene - worsened by the crowding, which also made alignment more difficult during growth. The calculus acted as a barrier to the natural forces of the lips and tongue, which could have helped guide the teeth into more favorable positions.
Both maxilla and mandible showed marked atresia, resulting in an arch perimeter incompatible with the total dental volume. There was also early loss of tooth 46 and presence of carious lesions (all treated prior to starting orthodontics).
➡️ First orthopedic phase with rapid maxillary expansion (Hyrax)
➡️ Passive self-ligating fixed appliance
➡️ Class correction elastics
➡️ Auxiliary mechanics: springs, elastics, and specific sequential strategies
No tooth extractions! Just well-planned orthodontics with selective and minimal interproximal reductions. The response was fast and effective. Even though the case isn’t finished yet, the results are already impressive: teeth aligned, spaces nearly closed, minimal overjet, and a signif**ant improvement in smile harmony.
We are now entering the final stage: correction of the lower midline (still deviated to the right due to early loss of 46) and the remaining Class II — still nearly complete on one side and Class I on the other. Once the midline is corrected, we’ll likely end up with two “half” Class II sides.
The patient was sweet and committed (though brushing still needs work!). I’m happy to be part of this journey. Treatment started in Feb/2024 and the current photos are from Apr/2025 — just a year and a half of work!
