That "ouch" moment when a simple cavity turns into a root canal? We've all been there! 😫 This patient came in with pain and sensitivity in their lower first molar. What seemed like a routine filling had a hidden story.
After ensuring complete comfort with anaesthesia and isolating the tooth with a rubber dam for maximum cleanliness and safety, we began removing the decay. Using a special caries detecting dye, we could clearly see the infected tooth structure. Unfortunately, the decay was much deeper than expected and led to a pulp exposure—meaning the nerve of the tooth was affected. 😥
The best long-term solution? A Root Canal Treatment (RCT)! This allows us to save the natural tooth by removing the infected nerve tissue, cleaning and disinfecting the intricate canal system, and then sealing it.
We completed the root canal and restored the tooth with a strong, tooth-colored composite filling. The tooth is now saved, pain-free, and ready to get back to work! ✅
Moral of the story: Don't ignore that twinge! Early detection can often mean a simpler filling. If you're feeling any sensitivity, don't hesitate to get it checked.
