COMMON TYPES OF MALOCCLUSION 🦷👇🏻
Malocclusion means the upper and lower teeth or jaws do not align properly when you bite. It can affect appearance, but depending on the type and severity, it may also influence chewing, oral hygiene, tooth wear, and overall dental health.
🔹 Crowding: Not enough space in the jaw, causing teeth to overlap, rotate, or erupt out of alignment.
🔹 Spacing: Excess gaps or spaces between teeth.
🔹 Class II / Increased Overjet: The upper front teeth sit too far forward relative to the lower teeth.
🔹 Class III / Underbite: The lower teeth or jaw sit ahead of the upper teeth or jaw.
🔹 Deep Bite: Excessive vertical overlap of the upper front teeth over the lower front teeth.
🔹 Open Bite: Some upper and lower teeth don't meet when biting; in an anterior open bite, the front teeth remain separated while posterior teeth contact.
🔹 Midline Shift: The dental midlines of the upper and lower teeth do not line up.
🔹 Crossbite: One or more upper teeth bite inside the corresponding lower teeth.
