Denture-induced hyperplasia is a reactive lesion arising from excessive and chronic mechanical pressure on the vestibular oral mucosa. It has a female predilection and it is mostly seen in the maxilla. The size of the lesion may be as small as a few millimeters to massive lesion involving the entire vestibule.

Some people who use teeth whiteners may experience tooth sensitivity. That happens when the peroxide in the whitener gets through the enamel to the soft layer of dentin and irritates the nerve of your tooth. In most cases the sensitivity is temporary. You can delay treatment, then try again.
Overuse of whiteners can also damage the tooth enamel or gums, so be sure to follow directions and talk to your dentist.

Space maintainers help “hold space” for permanent teeth. Your child may need one if he or she loses a baby tooth prematurely, before the permanent tooth is ready to erupt. If a primary tooth is lost too early, adult teeth can erupt into the empty space instead of where they should be. When more adult teeth are ready to come into the mouth, there may not be enough room for them because of the lost space. To prevent this from happening, the dentist may recommend a space maintainer to hold open the space left by the missing tooth.

At birth people usually have 20 baby (primary) teeth, which start to come in (erupt) at about 6 months of age. They fall out (shed) at various times throughout childhood. By age 21, all 32 of the permanent teeth have usually erupted.

Dry socket is a painful condition that sometimes occurs after a tooth is extracted. It happens when the blood clot that forms over your socket is displaced; leaving bone and nerves exposed. If this happens, notify your dentist.

Treatment may include:

Cleaning the site of the extraction and placing a medicated dressing in the socket.
Changing the dressing daily until the pain diminishes and the socket begins to heal.
Prescribing a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Avoiding cigarette smoking or other to***co use, as it can delay healing.
